Amazon pilots playable game demos on Twitch
Amazon is piloting a way to play game demos directly inside Twitch, with Zac Bussey showing a 20-minute demo of Tarsier Studios' Reanimal. Instead of downloading from Steam first, viewers can launch the demo on Twitch, then get pushed to the game's Steam page when the timer runs out.
For devs, this looks like a new acquisition path wrapped around cloud streaming. Bussey said Reanimal appears to use some kind of cloud-based access via GameLift, and that the demo is mainly intended as an ad product. AWS hasn't said which other games are involved, what it will cost, or whether this is headed for a wider rollout. The broader context is that Amazon already has GameLift Streams, which launched in March 2025 and expanded to six more regions in January 2026, with support for up to 1080p/60fps in a browser.
“primarily intended as an ad product”
- what
- Amazon is testing playable game demos directly on Twitch, starting with a 20-minute demo of Reanimal.
- who
- The test involves Amazon, Twitch, AWS, Zac Bussey, and Tarsier Studios' Reanimal.
- when
- AWS launched GameLift Streams in March 2025 and expanded it to six new regions in January 2026.
- impact
- Could create a new ad-driven demo funnel that skips Steam downloads and sends players to a store page after playtime expires.
Promising reach, but clearly ad-first and cloud-dependent.
