Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream tops April US sales | US Monthly Charts
Circana’s April US data is a good reminder that one breakout title can still swing the whole market. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream debuted at No. 1 with more than $41 million in combined physical and projected digital sales, and its performance helped push consumer spending on new physical software up 44% year over year to $96 million.
The broader market was healthy too: total spending on game content rose 2% in April to $3.8 billion, while total US video game spending hit $4.3 billion, up 3% YoY. Year to date, content spending is up 3% to $16.7 billion and overall spending is up 5% to $18.8 billion. Hardware was especially strong, with revenue up 34% to $261 million thanks to Switch 2.
For developers, the most interesting change is Circana’s new chart methodology. It now publishes projected Top 10 rankings instead of Top 20, and includes more titles that combine actual publisher data with projected digital sales. That makes the rankings more representative for games from publishers that don’t share full digital numbers, but it also means the charts are a little less exact than the old model.
The top 10 also shows how broad platform reach matters now: Capcom’s Pragmata landed second overall and topped PlayStation, while also placing well on PC, Xbox, and Nintendo. That kind of multi-platform spread is useful context for production, marketing, and platform strategy, especially when hardware share is shifting so sharply toward Switch 2.
“The advantage is that the charts will now much more accurately reflect the relative sales performance of video games in the market.”
