PIX 2605.28-preview: previewing new PIX and D3D12 features
Microsoft’s PIX 2605.28-preview ships alongside D3D12 Agility SDK 721 and folds in a bunch of preview features shown at GDC with AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm. The headline items are Shader Explorer, GPU hardware counters in System Monitor, tile-mapping inspection for reserved resources/heaps, a beta PIX API, and new remote deployment flows aimed at non-domain-joined devices and handhelds.
For day-to-day development, this is mostly about shortening the loop between “I see a problem” and “I can explain it.” Shader Explorer brings offline compiler-based static profiling to AMD and Intel in this build, while the new DirectStorage mapping-file support lets PIX translate archive offsets back into asset names in timing captures. The remote workflow update also matters if you’re profiling Windows handhelds or other awkward targets, since it removes a lot of the old setup friction.
“This release complements the new D3D12 Agility SDK that was released today, version 721.”
