Aseprite has rolled out a new account flow on its website that lets customers sign in with the email tied to prior purchases and download the app directly from aseprite.org. That includes buyers from itch.io, Humble Bundle, Gumroad, and even Steam, which should simplify access for teams that keep licenses and installers scattered across storefronts.

The site update also brings in Paddle as the payment processor, along with local pricing and local payment methods. That integration had been in progress for a later release, but an itch.io outage forced the change to go live early so purchases could keep moving. For small studios and individual developers, that kind of storefront resilience matters: fewer dead ends when a vendor has problems, and less friction when a tool purchase needs to happen quickly.

There was a catch, though. After the pricing adjustments, Steam’s policy blocks discounts for 30 days, which meant the timing landed just before a Summer Sale window. The result was an unplanned missed sale opportunity, and Aseprite says it hopes to offer a special Steam discount later for anyone waiting on that promotion.

For developers who rely on Aseprite in production, the practical upside is cleaner account recovery and a more unified purchase/download path. The downside is a reminder that pricing and distribution changes can ripple across storefront rules in ways that directly affect sales timing and customer expectations.
