Phasmophobia developer's indie label Kinetic Publishing to reveal debut slate at showcase later this month
Kinetic Publishing is about to show its hand. The publishing label from Phasmophobia developer Kinetic Games will reveal the first wave of signed projects at a showcase on August 12, with release windows and platform details expected for games aimed at 2027 and 2028 launches.
For indies, the interesting part is the structure behind the label. Kinetic Publishing launched in January as a self-funded operation with no outside shareholders or investors, and it plans to support two to three projects a year. Funding is expected to range from a few hundred thousand pounds up to £1 million, depending on what each game needs.
That makes this a useful case study in how a successful self-published hit can be turned into a publishing arm. Daniel Knight founded the label after Phasmophobia’s breakout success, saying he wanted to provide the kind of support he wished he’d had when starting solo in 2020. The label says it has already received hundreds of submissions from teams around the world.
The showcase will stream on Kinetic Publishing’s Twitch channel at 8pm BST on August 12, with co-streaming partners still to be confirmed. Ben Starr will narrate the event, and DoubleJump is producing it. For developers watching the indie publishing space, the key question is whether Kinetic can pair meaningful funding with enough production and release support to help small teams actually ship.
“Launching Kinetic Publishing is about creating the kind of support Dan would've appreciated when starting out.”
