Prepare for Emergence Day with the Gears of War: E-Day Limited Edition XBOX Wireless Controllers

Briefing

Microsoft is using Gears of War: E-Day to anchor a new wave of branded hardware, starting with a limited-edition XBox Wireless Controller that’s already up for preorder at participating retailers and the Microsoft Store for $89.99.

The design leans hard into E-Day imagery: cracked asphalt, glowing red fissures, a Crimson Omen reveal, blacked-out face buttons, red triggers, a transparent D-pad, and a metallic COG tag. It’s clearly aimed at collectors, but it also shows how far first-party accessory design has moved beyond simple color swaps into full thematic treatment.

A second option opens in Xbox Design Lab on September 30, letting players build their own E-Day controller with artwork by Luke Preece and upgrades like metallic triggers, rubberized grips, and custom engraving. For teams watching platform strategy, this is another example of how hardware personalization is being used to extend a game’s identity beyond the software SKU.

Both controllers will be on display at gamescom 2026, where attendees will also get hands-on time with Gears of War: E-Day for the first playable campaign debut. Xbox is also pairing the controller with an 8BitDo charging dock variant, reinforcing the broader accessory ecosystem around the franchise.

“Never Fight Alone. Squad up.”
