Supercell's acquisition of Metacore expected to close at the end of September 2026
GamesIndustry.biz reports that Supercell’s acquisition of Metacore is moving ahead after both companies signed an agreement, with closing expected at the end of September 2026. The deal was first announced in May, and the terms remain undisclosed.
For developers, the immediate takeaway is that Merge Mansion is being folded into Supercell’s live games portfolio rather than treated as a standalone one-off buy. Supercell says its games will continue as normal during the process, and Metacore says the team remains focused on the community that has supported the game for years.
The companies are framing the acquisition as a long-term live-ops play. Metacore CEO Mika Tammenkoski said Supercell’s experience running global live games gives Merge Mansion a stronger foundation for future growth, while Supercell president Sara Bach called the game a new genre with the ingredients for long-term retention: brand, community, and distinctive gameplay plus narrative.
The move also fits Supercell’s broader strategy. In 2025, the company said its live games reached an estimated 290 million monthly active players, even as full-year revenue slipped 4% to €2.65 billion and pre-tax profit rose 6% to €932 million. Supercell also doubled investment in new game development in 2025 and expects to roughly double it again, signaling that it is using live-ops strength to fund bigger bets.
