"Every major publisher has approached us to review their old Kinect and Wii catalogue" – Nex Playground is spoilt for choice as its international rollout continues

Briefing

GamesIndustry.biz reports that Nex Playground is pushing deeper into Europe, with a German launch planned for later this year at €319. The family-oriented micro-console has already cleared 1 million units sold and is approaching 1 million paying subscribers, giving the company enough momentum to keep expanding its retail and subscription footprint.

The business is leaning hard into omnichannel discovery, with strong traction on TikTok in the UK and organic creator coverage helping drive awareness. Nex says its UK launch is beating forecasts, while Germany is already seeing imported units sign in to the platform ahead of the official release.

On the content side, the company is trying to solve the “too much choice” problem with favourites, curated picks, and recommendation features based on camera input and play history. That matters for anyone building on a closed, family-first platform: discovery and retention are becoming product features, not just store problems.

Nex is also actively reviving older motion-control IP. Thomas Kang says major publishers have approached the company about old Kinect and Wii catalogues, while recent partnerships with Sega and Bandai Namco show the platform is willing to mix retro brands with motion-friendly design. With hardware prices under pressure from component costs, the company says it will hold the line on affordability and keep Play Pass at $89 yearly or $49 quarterly.
