Changes to Steam User Reviews API
Steamworks Development says Steam is deprecating the store-domain endpoint used to pull bulk user reviews for a game, with the old appreviews URL set to stop working on October 22. Developers who have scripts, dashboards, or internal tools built around that endpoint will need to update bookmarks and request logic before then.
The replacement is the WebAPI version of User Reviews, which should return the same data but requires a WebAPI key tied to the game. Valve has also published a migration guide to help teams compare output and adjust for any format differences.
For developers, the practical upside is better service stability. Moving the endpoint off the store domain should reduce slowdowns during heavy store traffic and let Valve raise the rate limit for review requests, which matters for teams doing sentiment analysis, live ops monitoring, or automated reporting.
The User Reviews API has been around since 2017, and this change fits Steamworks' broader pattern of shifting developer-facing services onto partner-domain WebAPI endpoints alongside financial and wishlist data. If your pipeline depends on Steam review ingestion, this is a straightforward but time-sensitive migration.
