LAST: Why College?

Where does education fit? Where does college fit? Hopefully, I’ve established that a college is needed to help develop students who need to get to a higher level that they may not be able to attain themselves. A common byproduct of a college’s quest of this type of development is that students learn at a faster rate. This gets overlooked often. If people sat down and tried to learn algebra by themselves, they might take much longer than a semester under their own pace. As a former Physics major, it would have took me at least 10 years to get through what I accomplished in 4 for my Bachelor’s Degree.

Good schools can find ways to compress and/or speed learning. When it comes to gaming, I believe this tenant is and should be true. Colleges can get people to jobs quicker. However, this is not enough. The modern culture seems to believe that is a college’s only worth. Colleges are more than this. Here are several things that I learned through a good college education:

  1. How to learn
  2. Being confident trying new things/ways
  3. Advanced problem solving
  4. Ethics
  5. Broader understanding of material (that only comes from varied classes)
  6. A desire to truly understand things not just get results
  7. Advanced technology
  8. Responsibility and working hard

Thank you Nadina. Good luck on your studies! Even though I write all the time, I still need guidance, too! I'm interested that you would do that as a student. I just "roughed it" and got varied results.
