What it do everyone!

Welcome back for another week, which honestly, started slow. I relaxed most of the weekend and wasn't sure what I wanted to work on. Then late Sunday night I got motivated to add World Time to the framework and as usual, it turned into way more than just adding a timer.

I started by giving the world its own calendar and clock, with Earth as the default reference. Once that was working, I started using the time data to drive other systems. Starting with dynamic weather because that was the original intent.

Then I decided I wanted lunar phases, to control spawning Werewolves.

Then day phases, for vampires or shit for crops.

Then seasonal conditions, to filter seasonal effects

And finally... temperature, which uses all of those variables to provide a dynamic changing value. I plan on using this mechanic to control enemy spawns, special crafting recipes, and quest availability.

Finally, before I knew it, I had built an entire little world-state system and wrapped it into a small Calendar / Weather Widget that I've been using to debug everything.

So yeah...what started as "maybe I'll add a clock" turned into one of the more unique systems I've built so far.

Most of the framework features I've been working on are pretty straightforward RPG systems — stats, combat, quests, inventory, abilities, and all the things you'd expect.

This one feels different because it's not necessarily a system the player has to interact with directly. It just makes the world feel like it exists and that's probably what makes it one of my favorite additions so far.

Even if half of these systems never get directly leveraged by gameplay, having a world that knows what time it is, what season it's in, what phase the moon is in, how warm it should be, and what the weather is doing...is getting pretty damn weird, and I like it.
