“The Passion”, a video game?

You''ve got to be kidding. How are you going to possibly make a game based around a movie which, in turn, is based around the crucifixion of Christ?

For one, the game would piss a bunch of people off. They''d all think you were making a mockery of Christ. Secondly, what would you do: Make the torture parts similar to those in Metal Gear Solid? Phht.

hmmm... at first I thought "what a great game designing challenge!"... but then i saw it was Warsong''s post, and like him i gave up on posting anything productive....

Making a game based on the Passion sounds cool, but your post was just awful.

Doesn’t have to be based exactly at the same moment only but before, during, are after.
It should not piss Christians off since it goes the messages that it should in the proper guidelines and rules. In the since that It would also be played by non Christians in that they don''t care well that''s to the persons decision to do bad things but whoever controls the character does what they choose and in the end the player sees their consequences which get a realization and understanding.

for one i believe gibson did it all in old hebrew thus the movie will be "unintelligable" vocally and two games about saviors such as christ wouldnt be good games.

Now the game will not go to the point of it being wrong to insult the religion and would not praise the wrong, but let you do what you do and then see what happen, in which you learn from doing and making mistakes while the game explains why and what. No Christian will be offended when they play it and no atheist will feel offended since you choose what you want to do in the game since it would most likely be a dual game which the consequences are the fruits or spoils of your actions.

OMFG, We can take Ages of Jesus as game title. It''s in the style of Age Of Empires but the goal is different. You are a militairy commander who is in command of the crusification. So, you have to train a few soldiers to arrest jeebus, get wood, build a cross, make nails, make a stake crown for jeebus and then arrest him. Oh, and don''t forget the ropes so he won''t fall off the cross.

In the last mission you get the nail him and celebrate around the cross.

Wait, that''s the most stupidest idea. It''s almost as stupid of making a game inspired on Passion of the Christ.

I don''t know if this is a good idea. The crucification of Christ is a sensitive subject to not only Christians, but Muslims and Jews as well. You should take that into consideration before making any game related to the subject- espiacally if it disrespects those 3 celestial religions.

the design of that game will probably be the challenge of a lifetime, if you are supposed to make a game that doesnt piss off 50% of earth''s population.

This guy wasn''t really serious was he? If so, maybe I will make a game about whacking some Muslims or maybe I could make a game where I play Hitler and try to kill as many Jews as I can before the end of the war. It could be a FPS,or maybe an RTS type game?

but i do think it would be very difficult to translate the story of our savor into a video game format. for one, 80% of the things he did were spoken orally and involed no physical action...which is primarly what games consist of.
I donno, if your trying to make something that just has a Christian theme to it or something, im already 1 step ahead of yah. check out www.twelvegaugesoftware.com to see the progress, although were still in the engine development stage.

I guess it''s all about finding the right angle for the game. Why not look beyond the known paths of rpg/fps/rts games and find a new way to show the story whilst making it a fun enough game to play.

Like someone said : it would be the design-challenge of a lifetime but if you could get it done it would be the biggest hit in years ...

Game Design Challenge of a lifetime? Someone called me?

The interface is point and click, in an adventure style of game.

You start off with the same character, and the twist to the "game" is that you can jump from person to person, but not when you want, only at certain pre-determined times.

You also play diferent genders, so you will play as a woman and see that side of the society too.

Some possible and interesting characters:
- Male - Roman Soldier
- Male - Roman Physician (medical doctor)
- Male - Jew Temple Priest
- Male - One of the Aposteles (spelling?)
- Female - Plague striken victim
- Female - A prostitute

I would also add that each character interacts with the others, so when you play the physician, you get to interact with the female plague victim.

The 1st goal of the game would be to establish a geo-political setting and explain why things where the way they where. Jews in the temples, the roman governers, how they affected the areas, the little people and what they think of their governers, the quest for the Messia, the fact that in those days there was a new Messia each week, the entry into the story of Jesus of Nazareth, a dificult-to-read young carpenter, the spreading of Its words, etc....

Basicly it would be like a movie, with micro-tasks to be performed by the "player".

It could be taken a step further, and instead of its context being limited to Jesus'' last hours, the game could be made to span the whole of Jesus'' life, starting with Joseph and Mary, the area where they lived, what they worked on, taxations, public executions, how normal and periodic crucifications where, what types of criminals ended on the crux, etc...

...and end up with its crucification, its burial in a borrowed grave (yes, he didnt have one of its own), and 100 years later the beginings of the Its Church...

to end this post I would call the game "The Fisherman''s Sandals"...

Do remember that Jesus could''ve called 12 legions, i.e. 48000 angels if I recall correctly, to his rescue. And only two wiped out Sodom and Gomorrah.

I think a more interesting game focusing on the Christian theme might be an RTS focussing on the battles to throw Satan and his followers out of heaven. That has some definite potential. Sort of like "Paradise Lost" thrown into a game. The events are left open to speculation as far as detail, but a story is already outlined. Someone tell me what they think on this. If a people think it would not hack people off completely, I may actually persue it. Sorry about your post getting nailed, Warsong, but I think the idea is too narrow and the details of the story already to set. I would say you could change things up, but it is a sensitive subject and people would not respond well. Anyways, at the same time, you did manage to get my mind running on this other idea, so I thank you for that. Thanks also to Orionx103 for the comment about the twelve legions. That helped spur the initial thoughts.
