Yep. Pretty nice scam they have going. They charge you for the service, and then charge spammers for your email address.

On a related note, what''s the story on actually going to the ''unsubscribe'' links in these damn things any more? I know a while back, it wasn''t a good idea to send an email to them because it was just confirming the fact that your address was alive and well. Is that still the case? I am getting so many Cialis spams that are obviously duplicates of each other (minus the random stuff) that I figure I HAVE to be able to prune that outta there SOMEHOW. Suggestions?

I think it''s a bad idea now especially. Just in the last few days, I''m starting to get more emails coming through my hotmail account which are spam. After the spam law went into effect, I was virtually spam free (except for my junk mail folder). But the think the spam masters are picking up ways to send bulk crap mail with valid (looking) header information. So other than getting a beefy mail filter program, not much to do but delete em. I figure for every legit "unsubscribe", there''s probably at least 5 that aren''t, and each of those five will cause you to receive junk mail from 10 new senders. Which means hitting the unsubscribe link is playing to lose.

Get a new email address that you don''t make public, and only use for business and/or relatives/good friends. Use throw-away webmail accounts for everything else. Or specially created email accounts on your own domain, that you can conveniently route to NULL, once you don''t need them anymore. Never post your private address on the web as text, but use a small image instead (I hope spam harvesters won''t use OCR for some time).

That''s unfortunately the only way that really works. Other are filters, of course. With all the negative side effects.

There is a legislation about SPAM enacted in the US (SPAM CAN or something like this), which didn''t help very much. AFAIK, it mandates un unsubscribe option, but no spammer actually cares.

There''s a CSS trick that works too, where your email in HTML is in reverse text, and the CSS puts it in normal text. I don''t have the link handy, though. I hope to start using that on GameDev.net as we transition to new designs.

I don''t mean to question anyones intelligence, but why do people keep posting in the lounge with "is this a scam" on completely obvious scams that you would think could only fool a mentally handicapped 2 year old whose attention has been temporarily diverted by a television set. In this case, without even checking to see that the website is registered to a shadowy figure in Russia (Kiev to be precise), you can tell its a scam (Unsolicited personal invitation, fairytale service that only they can magically offer).

Oh goodie... Michalson is still a dick! Since I hadn''t been hanging around the Lounge too much, I hadn''t kept up with whether or not he was still an insulting penis. Of course, that means I hadn''t been around to SEE all of these threads that address these sorts of problems.

That mentally handicapped 2 year old apparently is the majority of the world population.

I believe that CSS trick requires CSS 2.0, which reduces its usefulness. My website uses JavaScript to assemble e-mail addresses client-side but of course that requires JavaScript to be enabled.

Also, I doubt that CSS trick works for the href tag of the anchor links, but of course e-mail spiders do look at that.
