2005 Mustang GT

I have a 97 Mustang GT and have decide that the time is right to purchase a new one. If you are thinking OMFG TEH MUSTANG IS TEH SUCK AHAHAHAHA ROOFLES you may not be able to help, but to the rest of you... :-) Any thoughts on buying a 2004 now or a 2005 very soon or in a few months? 2004: P-End of year, end of model, get em off the lot for cheap P-I *really* like their styling C-Loses major value when you drive away, blue book is essentially 1 year old brand new C-Same torque less hp than '05, supposedly slower P-could still buy a couple of toys outside of the car after buying it 2005 P-Brand spanking new coolest toy on the block P-All new tech, all new chassis P-Styling is growing on me everytime I see it C-most anticipated car of '05; these are not gonna sell for good deals for months C-Styling has to grow on me...those fog lights? The console? P-Fastest production straight mustang GT ever P-Interior upgrade looks nice, minus the console C-fewer toys and then the kicker...2004 Mach 1 P-320 torque C-I just read a review that said the 05 is faster anyway C-Most expensive C-Few left, can only find red (no black) P-Shaker scoop P-Basically a cobra minus the supercharger, great base for upgrading P-Unique P-6 speed Those are the highlights of meh indecisiveness...please help...my fiancee and I are thinking about going looking after work on Wed, and I plan on test driving both (if the new ones are on the lot yet), and possibly driving o the dealership with the Mach 1s to test drive those as well.....while that will likely be the final decision maker, all advice is appreciated....

I've got a 2002 Mustang Coupe, and I must say I LOVE the new 2005 model. I'm gonna put my humble vote in that you GET THAT CAR and be a happy man. [smile]

2004 will probably have fewer problems, 2005 - being a new model is more likely to have more.

What's the cost difference between the two?

I love the new (old?) styling of the '05s. If you can afford one get it so I can live vicariously through you.

Get the 2005. It looks better, it's more powerful, it's completely redesigned (newer is usually better).

I dunno.. I'm excited to see what they pull off when they bring out an SVT Cobra version of the new model.. I can see that easily putting out 450hp. *drool*

Bah, they're both Fords.. they're gonna have similar problems. I love Ford to death, but I've had significantly more problems with a 98 Expedition than I have had with a 94 Camry.

Sweet! There are other Mustang people on this board :) The new Mustangs are seriously, seriously awesome, with the retro styling, creative new features (the gauges background can change between lik 100 and some different colors), and the 'regular' GT with 300HP, it's pretty tough to beat. However, if it were me (and hopefully in a few months it will be), I'd get the '04, 40th anniversery edition Mach 1. It's a collectors vehicle, 305HP (but probably still slower than the new one), shaker hood, and they're just cool. But if you don't plan on collecting, then go with the 05, sure it's the first of a new design, but it's been a while since you could buy a "bad" Mustang anyway.

Plus, I've read that by the time the 05's hit the streets, there will already be enough after market parts to bring them up to 500HP :)

Personally, I'm still waiting for a new Boss.

I'm going to keep things short, I don't like the 2005. But .. I like all the older models.

Hehe, I'm the opposite.. I think the 94 and 99 series Mustangs are just about ready for the glue factory, if you know what I mean. The 99 mustangs were a huge step up from the previous model, and I certainly wouldn't mind driving one.. but this new model brings back that extended hood feeling that I absolutely love in sport cars.. along with many other sweet features (such as the multi-color gauges).

Wow mad props for the 05...thx for the input all.

I am gonna call the lot tonight or tomorrow and see where they are at; I went on Sunday and none were available yet. I think I will need to testdrive them, but am leaning towards the 05. The Mach 1 is indeed a collectors car but I should keep in mind that this is my commuter car-it definitely will not be sitting in garage only to be looked at!

I was thinking about the Mach 1 as it has more power on paper, but the reviews I have found are saying that the 05 is faster stock than the 04 M1...and they probably cost the same.

So after work on Wed hopefully I'll at least know what I want, and maybe will extend that test drive to my garage...in which case I'll post some pics.

I always thought the current body style looked like a pile of horse crap. The 2005 I have to admit doesn't look to bad though. Its nice to know my '66 Chevy can still beatup on the ponys. If you have to condem yourself to a Ford then I'd go for the 2005. But you would be better off waiting for a few months. Theres bound to be some issues that appear, let them get sorted out then get a car.

The sound. A four cylinder simply does not have that rumble that a V8 does. I'm not talking about that whiny exhaust sound that the ricers are so fond of either.. I'm talking about the low grumbling of the engine. It's absolutely beautiful. It's also cheaper to stick in 8 cylinder in instead of spending $7k in parts to get an i4 up to 300hp. After that, the four cylinder is done.. but the 8 cylinder can still be turbocharged / modified with far greater power. Engine's like Mitsubishi's GSX are absolutely wonderful.. but I still prefer big and obnoxious (and the ability to boast that you can tow a half-ton trailer).

Get the new C6 Corvette. They are awsome and they 0wn Mustangs. Or, instead of getting a new Mustang, get an old one, like a Shelby Cobra GT. I must admit though that the new Mustang is pretty cool. I like it alot better than the previous models.

LMAO the new corvette starts at $44K while the new mustang starts at $24K...a bit of a descrepency...and with $20K extra in mods you could push it past the specs of the vette. But I digress. The vettes are nice, but I am paying for my wedding right now as well (6 more months); definitely not affordable.

And while the old ones are nice, they require constant maintenance and a garage full of tools...I don't have the time, resources, or patience for that right now.

I committed to helping my little sister with some homework tonight, or I'd start the test driving this evening.
