Trying to start a flame war?
Anyway I suggest SDL and OpenGL they go well together. . .

I'd say that both are equally well-suited to coding 3D games. Both have good libraries, are relatively easy to use, and have plenty of documentation available, and books to buy, and tutorials & advice on the internet. As you can download both OpenGL and DirectX dev libraries for free, why not grab and install both and experiment with them to see which one you prefer? You'll learn an awful lot that way, rather than let one of us tell you what to think. In truth, both have strengths and weaknesses. For example, if you use OpenGL you open up the possibility of coding games for non-Windows platforms.
