This is probably a good thing. I could not find a topic in gamedev about this, so I hope this is not a repost. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/12/19/suprnova_stops_torrents/ Read down a bit. What exactly is the "Movie Picture Ass. of America"? Work of a disgruntled writer or hacker? In case they fix it before some get to reads the article, I will copy the text: I suppose it is an abbreviation, but I like it.

As you receive a file, so other BitTorrent users are able to grab it from you in the same way. The idea is to ensure a more even sharing of bandwidth between participants. BitTorrent is not a classic P2P application as it's about improving download performance rather than sharing files per se. Files are found through links on websites, rather than the application itself. The MPAA and co. are gunning for operators of servers which carry these links. Â®

Ass. => Association. bad abbr. [lol]. Anyways its sad ot see SuprNova go, but there will be other sites as well! I remember when SN was first getting started - they had less than 1,000 visitors a day - then I remember when it hit 1,000,000. Good ole days. Long Live BitTorrent!!

That's why I use WinMX, which can't be traced, TYVM.

Work of a tabloidesque website (don't get me wrong, I love 'em) full of writers that hate the MPAA. Usually they just refer to them as "the pigopolists." Not big fans of the music and movie industries those guys.

My guess would be he never got it configured properly. Many people who cannot get incoming connections on the proper ports get poor results. And most of them do not know how to fix it. Bittorrent when properly configured is very fast. Few things beat a direct download though. Although not many places offer direct downloads for content common to bittorrent.

On a side note I think it is very funny that the official bt client asks for a donation.

I went to Suprnova last night and found out that it is gone. I wish it was still around, as it is the main place I get movie trailers and game demos from. Of course, it was a obviously a blatant warez site hiding under the cover of 'we don’t know what people are hosting', but it still had a lot of legitimate uses.

Dang it.

well as far i know suprnova clsed becouse the site ownder got tired of it
well, i wont want the money that keeps almost all bt bandwidth coming from my pocket as well

even though everyone will always think that was MPAA, RIAA or whatever :p

As far as I know suprnova.org closed because a few days earlier the MPAA had announced that it would start an "attack" against illegal bittorrent stuff, and before something happened to the owner of suprnova he closed the site.
Sorry for my english, I hope I was clear enough for you guys to understand me.

btw, I hope I'm not spreading some kind of rumour, this is just what I read somewhere.
