Apex Studios over at http://apex.hostcreations.com/forums/ is now announcing their new MMORPG for their company and are looking for community members and and team members to help build the MMORPG. The name of the game is still un-announced but there is a poll about community decisions for the game name. Their is also little information about the game. The game engine will be the RealmCrafter Engine Professional Series to be able to create custom designs for the MMORPG. There will be many different features for the game also. Banking system will allow players to save money to banking equipments with ATM machines. There will be a guild bank for players to lend money for their guild for use of other players in the same guild. Guild features will be pretty much self-explanitory. There will be much information later about the guild features. Over 30,000 items will be created for the game. More then 1 job also allowing the feature to use 2 of them at the same time for more strength and power of your character. Over 4 main countries that will represent the world of the game also known as countries. Lots of areas of battle. There will be thousands of quests so you wont be bored and we expect them all to be very different so you know you are playing a fully detailed game. Graphics will be insane developed by Apex Designs department. Other features such as housing, crafting, banking, guilds, etc. will be announced later on the site when more is known about the engine and inputed into the game. But for now head over to the site and cast your vote to help get a game name for this beautiful project.

So you've finished the Online FPS already, huh?
You know most people who want to make an MMO try to start small, the sissies. I'm glad you're not letting little things like experience, money, and time get in your way, and it's nice to see someone trying to compete with the professionals.

Kind of reminds me of a GameDev comic, but I can't quite remember which one...

FPS no. The FPS was actually cancled due to people not joining up for the challenge. We are going to keep the project data and the models that we have created for the game just in-case something happens and we bring the project back. But we figured we would like to try out the new RealmCrafter so we are gonna create an MMORPG using the games engine. Be sure to register at the new site. Here is a list of members that we are looking for...

Programmers/Leads
Modelers/Leads
Mappers/Leads
Artists/Leads
Composers/Leads
Networking/Leads
Website Management

There will be a little section to fill out an application on the forums which Im going to work on right now.

Ah, er...

But seriously. I sort of did the same thing when I first posted here at gamedev (except my project lasted several months) Without any serious experience you believe that a MMORPG can be had in under a year, with great graphics and good gameplay. While this is possible, in the sense that one could take Crystal Space, cheat and take Planeshift code, replace all the graphics, customize the systems, and have a new game. It wouldn't be at all rewarding, not to mention since you aren't a great coder, you'd have to find somebody willing to do that.

Eh. My team had a 38 page design document with a realistic goal of 3 years. We had engine capabilities versus want, artistic design versus realism, and the strain it would put on possible server/pipeline structures. We then had a plan for 750 player servers, thus creating small communities within a later, larger community. Later in the design process, we cut things out such as guilds, weather effects, fancy animations, and adventure-style quests with different outcomes.

Needless to say, even with OGRE, it was near impossible for me (Models, animations, and textures) plus ONE semi-experienced programmer, and a 'do a little everything guy'... to get anywhere serious in 5 months. We had a custom login, character selection, and world, or part of one, and a few custom structures. That was 5 months in.

You quit the project because you weren't getting anything 'serious' going in less than a week? Many of the members of this forum have been working on projects for years, perhaps by themselves, but they are still nowhere near done.

Flesh out your ideas, learn basics of everything. A good designer knows graphics-related errors, limitations of your engines, etc... Good Luck.

Listen to Epiloch.
When you see a game like WoW being developed in 3 years, you figure you could pull off something simpler in a year or two, but what you don't take into account is the number of people working on the project. a dozen people can't make a good, large, fancy MMO in a reasonable amount of time.
Also, you keep starting projects, and every time you do you assure everyone that you won't quit, will see the project through to the end, and will work hard. And then you think up an idea for another game...

Seriously though, if you want to make an MMO, don't just shoot out an idea. Join another project, help out, and maybe learn a bit.
Or, of course, you could join a less ambitious project, like a simple RPG, or a platformer.

Like I said. I figured that no one wanted to do it. The project has been running for quite some time. And as I stated the project isnt trashed just held back.

You are shooting too high with no expirence. Making an mmorpg is the top of the top. The hardest obstacle. If you were skiing, would your first run be down the double black diamond, or the bunny hill? It sounds to be like your boosting about the game now, as if were going up the chairlift, but when you get the slope, you chicken out. This is the 3rd time you have said you are going to do some type of MMO (include the SWG EMU). You arent going to go down the trail, because you dont have the expirence. Come back to gamedev when you can provide us with an rpgmaker game, and then you might gain some respect.

It would help your cause a bit more if you had a difinitive design document instead of an entire post full of "There will be". At least a design doc would show the idea has had some serious consideration. I checked your forum but couldn't find any more information. Is there any?

They way I see things...

You have posted about many different game proposals, in a short period of time, this greatly hurts your credibility. You will need somthing more concrete (like a demo) before you are likely to get some serious team members.

I'm involved in writing just the back end components for supporting an MMO and I've given myself minimum 1.5 years for that. Then come the time for the front end client which will probably take around the same at a minimum. Big projects like this take a lot of time and even more tweaking.

We need to revolutionize the game play and quit concentrating so much on the technology and graphics.

Cool, a company that is able to pay high-bandwidth MMORPG servers but can seemingly not afford its own web server for a start :D

Can we stop flaming this guy?

Not because he doesn't deserve it, but because he makes my day with his frantic recruitment drives, and I don't want him to stop creating new game "ideas" then attempting to recruit gamedev (and now flipcode - is nothing sacred?) members...

Because we all need a little light entertainment once in a while.

Most MMO projects fail cause you need servers and it's hard to get people to sign up for your services.
One indie group recently had some success.

Th3 7ru7h, how much experience do you have with creating games?

@ScootA: You know, I was just about to say that. Seriously, I love skimming the Help Wanted thread before I start my day :D

@Th3 7ru7h: You know, I think you're aiming a bit low. Come on, is this the best you can do? How about some mounts? An airship? You ever play a MUD where you can hover or fly? Why not include that? And how about a crafting system where people could use a built in 3D modelling tool to create weapons and stuff?
What you currently have doesn't sound like the ultimate MMO to me... :|

Seriously, 7r007hy, I'm just screwing with you. ;)

I'd love to manage the website, but only if I could use my work on it as a reference for future employeres. As long as that's okay with you, send me an email/PM detailing what you'd like done, some more information on the project, and access instructions for your site.

Good luck even if I don't get the position! [smile]
