PSP playing PS1 games

I think the exact claim was that the PSP had the same overall level of power as the PSX. (Which would rule out emulation at any reasonable speed.)

I tried google briefly but came up with nothing. My common sense says no.

From what I heard, there are no reliable PS1 emulators even for the PC, which is a few order of magnitude faster than a PSP.

Reliable being the key word there. The GP2x also has a PS1 emulator, and even though it can run some games perfectly, the majority of them either don't work or run too slow to be playable.

I've yet to throw one of my games into ePSXe and have it not work.

Thanks guys, I'll give ePSXe a try.
My wife has a semi broken PS1 and she was constantly telling me to play FF7, but I don't like consoles that much, and she said she looked for an emulator but couldn't find any.
I'll see how well it works.

There's a native PC port of FF7, you know.

Heh, FF7 works perfectly with almost any PS1 emulator. That was almost *the* game that was tested to work with them... But yeah, PS1 emulators are very good. Not very many emulation problems. They are 100x better than N64 emulators even.

I was under the impression the the PSP was closer in power to the PS2. I Could be wrong though.

Anyways for the OP, Sony had a news conference last week, mostly about the PS3. But they also announced you will be able to download PS1 games and play them on a PSP.
