Just bought a Makarov

Heh, for intimidation you probably want one of those big Mossberg shotguns with the big CHK-CHK! noise when you pump a round.

I swear you can hear those things from miles around.

Hell, if you're going to buy a snazzy gun, (is that bronze casing?) you might as well shoot someone with it.

My friend bought one. They have pistol grips! Well, his did. I filled it full of shells, like 6 or 7 I remember and I rapid fired it. Meaning I shot it as fast as I could. It sort of hurt my hand, but shot quite fast if you moved that slide back and forth fast enough. I did that once, a few seconds later I felt my hand was a little sore and decided not to do it again. I knew it would have probably hurt, but I wanted to waste that stupid Tella-Tubby target we were using.

My friend also has an AK-47. I hate that gun! It’s horribly in accurate. You have to aim high and it hits low. I liked the SKS better.

Anyways, guns are cool. I think if I could get a nice one, like a Desert Eagle 44 MAG or something or some old WW2 rifles, it would be nice. I almost got a Mouser and Mosin Nagant M44. I fired an Mosin before and I was very impressed.

I think if I could get schematics to some of these I could make some really cool 3Ds. Give them away for free too. Most of those things like that I see or usually on Turbo Squid for lots of money. But I think it would be fun to model a scale fire arm. Couldn’t be that hard; with the proper schematics and other information.

Dude, No! It’s not bronze it’s polished alloy is chrome like. And I’m not going to shoot anyone.

However, if you plan to use a gun for 'protection' you must be prepared to shoot someone. If you draw a gun, planning to only scare someone that is attacking you, but will not be able to bring yourself to shoot them you are taking a bigger risk of making things worse. Guns simply aren't a good defense.

Best defense is to live a life that is very unlikely to lead to an event where you 'need' a gun. Find a small city or town to live in, avoid living in poor areas that are known for violence. I'm sure some will say "If you run from it, you are only letting them win!" but I have to say "if you get your ass shot off, you lose either way". Is living in some big city that is known for its crime worth it?

But nice firearm, if you can, get a photo of your first round at the range.

when i first fired a gun i kept hoping a crosshair would pop up in my field of view so i'd know where it was firing... :(

If someone is threatening your life you could shoot them in the leg without killing them, right?

Arent AK-47's illegal in the US? they sure are down here, I want to get a Beretta PX4 or similar, but I have to first take a course and some practical and psycological tests in order to be able to buy a gun, I am sure criminals go thru all that before trying to break an enter into private property as well [rolleyes], actually they just steal them from private security guards.

And, while you're at it, read up on crime rates. There are ways to reduce your chances (that is, make your neighbors more appealing targets), but everybody gets burglarized.

Talroth is spot on about making the situation worse. Either shoot, or don't confront the burglar at all.

Well, if push comes to shove, I would have to defend my self. But I would at least try and not kill the person, just disarm them in some way. Shooting them in the leg was my first option. But actually killing someone is another story. Even is I got away with it because of self defense, I would still have to deal with the fact the event actually occurred.

That’s what scares me about it. I got it for protection and target practice. Hopefully, I won’t have to ever use it on someone. But if I had to, absolutely had to, then I would. But chances are there is always another choice that would result in a much better ending then ending someone’s life.

For example, if my house was being broke into and my family’s lives were in danger. I have the means to disable the predator from further harming or potentially harming my family. I would simply warn, the person “Stop, or I’ll open fire”. If they acted in any threatening way afterwards I would be forced to take life threatening measures (i.e. pop a cap in dat fools ass).

But I believe avoiding violence it the best key. So I agree with you in these aspects Talroth. I’ve been considering moving to Seattle. I’m also working on getting a concealed weapons permit. I was able to buy a handgun so chances are pretty good for a concealed weapons permit; but not necessarily. So then my usage for my gun would then turn into Target Practice, Home Defense and Carry On. I have pretty clean record (with disregard to minor traffic violations).

Having a gun and having people know that I have a gun does however, worsen situations if I’m forced to come to those. But oh well, all fare in love & war. Until I get shot, I may have a different point of view.

For home defense (12 rounds!)

On a more serious note:
Keep in mind if you hit them with a non-lethal weapon, they will probably hit back with whatever they have on hand (low prob that it will be a stun gun). Additionally, when faced with a lethal weapon, police shoot for the center of mass, not the limbs. Your life or theirs. Not a good situation regardless of the outcome.

If not already undertaken, home defense, and/or professional gun traning.

i preffer non-lethal weapon weapons...you can make them fell more pain and not killing the person... ( you get away from court if you do it well ), and also you can play with your friends to see who is a better man and takes more pain :D

I tell you, nothing will wake you up in the morning like shooting a 3.5 inch magnum slug out of a 12 gauge shotgun. It's impressive to say the least. 10 rounds later my shoulder is sore for days lol. The kick from regular target load is nothing compared to the big rifled slugs.

I want to go back to the range now :-D They let you rent ANY handgun from .50 cal Desert Eagles, and .357 magnums all the way to Glocks + Berettas for about $7.00 + ammo prices.

Life doesn't work like TV. Any time you shoot a gun it is a potential kill shot. That's why they tell you to never aim or fire a gun at something you aren't ready to kill. I love guns though I've never fired anything bigger then a .357. But one buddy does have a breach loading 12 gauge we shoot clay pigeons with. Gun open and to your side when the pigeon is launched. Have to load, close, and shoot before it hits the ground. Quite a lot of fun.

My handgun is beautiful. It feels very nice in my hand. I like the way it looks and how small it is. Very concealable. It’s 9x18 rounds are not the best but they are powerful for their size. The gun is fairly accurate. My brother has a Russian Makarov and he was able to hit targets at 100 yards. They is pretty good with a pistol. It may sound unreal, but I seen it. My gun however, is just as accurate. May be poorly made compared to the Russian model. Russian firearms are usually good weaponry. Last a long time and shoot good.

I’m learning more and more each time I fire the weapon. They little gun is quite loud! I’m getting pretty accurate shots now. One of my flaws was how I held the weapon. My grip was tense and it appeared as if I was attempting to strangle the weapon. While taking aim at a wall in my house I noticed how the gun moved every time I fired a shot.

Eventually, I spoke to some people an got some tips. The handgun is not like a rifle and I need to relax. So I lessened my grip. I kept enough grip just to hold the gun, almost like a soft squeeze. I’ve found that the gun doesn’t move hardly as much, just a tiny bit. My next step was to ease the trigger instead of pulling it like I was. When I tried this, the gun stayed on target the whole time after fake firing it 10 times.

I’m going to try and get out into the range today. I’d like to practice my new techniques. I feel the need to take some safety classes, but I also feel that I don’t need them. The reason why I feel I do not need them is because I have many experienced people willing to help me. Also, I an find information on the internet about these things. One of which, I’ve been looking for proper gun safety. Mainly, I need to learn how to strip, clean and rebuild my weapon.

I was told never to leave a clip loaded. I figured this is common sense because children may find it. But there are no children present where I live. But, I was told that leaving a clip loaded could damage it by wearing out the spring. It would take some time but enough if it would. I was told that only a few rounds should be left in the clip, not fully loaded. But there is no real reason for me to leave loaded clips lying around. I keep my gun is a remotely safe location (next to my bed in a shelf).

Bottom line is, there is no reason for me to keep a loaded fun in the house. I can make it load ready with a clip and some bullets waiting to be loaded, but this seams a bit paranoid and unsafe to me. This is also one reason why I would like to get a revolver. Because keeping a revolver loaded has not effect on it. Also, some come with what could be called *child safety locks* where there is a lever embedded into the handle that must be depressed in order for the gun to fire. My father’s friend has one. The gun will absolutely not fire unless you depress the entire lever and hold it. A simple push and pull of the trigger will not work. There is a locking mechanism that is disengaged when the lever is depressed and allows the firearm to be fired. Nice feature a?

The handle is quite big so children would have an extremely hard time to depressing the lever. In fact, they shouldn’t be able to. But if all else fails, the safety is one and the gun is locked in a cabinet, it should be okay.

Yes. You. Fucking. Do.

Guns are NOT toys. If you ever, ever bring a gun into a conflict, it becomes an armed conflict. Someone will get hurt, and probably seriously. A gunshot wound, no matter where you inflict it, is a very serious injury.

If someone does come into your house, they're not looking to hurt you - they're looking to steal your money. Bringing a gun against them is going to make them react against you. When initiating a conflict, you should always always assume that they've got the same weapons you have, or more. Do you really think you can disarm them fast enough such that they wouldn't be able to fire back? Yes? Well, you'd be sorely mistaken if you're aiming for the legs. I don't know who you've been talking to, but there is absolutely no way you're going to pull that off without serious training.

A gun is an offensive weapon. I don't care what you're aiming for - you will kill someone with it. If you want a defensive weapon, get a can of mace, or a taser, or some other non-lethal weapon.

You can argue against me, saying that guns are safe if used properly, but I've actually seen a guy blow the top of his hand off, in a perfectly "safe" range with a perfectly "safe" gun.

It doesn't matter what adjectives you throw onto it - a gun is still a deadly weapon, and should be treated with the utmost respect. You should have gotten training before even handling the weapon.

Are you sure you don't mean 100 feet? Even for experienced shooters, 100 yards with a handgun, especially a small-form gun like yours, is a pretty tough shot. What size was the target?

Dry firing is bad for the weapon, keep it to a minimum.

Please do everyone a favor and take some real safety classes with real teachers. Sure, your buddies might say the same thing, but you need to have these rules drilled into you before you fire a single live round. You can read the basics on the internet all you want but please do yourself and your fellow citizens a favor and take real gun safety courses.
Also notable is that stripping and cleaning should be done after every time the weapon has been fired. That alone, however, is not 'gun safety'.

Frankly, from reading your posts I would not want to be living anywhere near you. Buying a gun before really knowing anything about firearm safety is a recipe for trouble, especially when you so easily dismiss the idea that you need to take such courses and that the internet will teach you everything you need to know. You've been talking a lot about how small and concealable the gun is, two things that quickly show that in your mind it is not purely for home defense. I'm not trying to discourage you from owning firearms, but instead urging you to learn proper treatment and safety rules as soon as possible. It will help prevent you from becoming another statistic about gun accidents.

First and foremost is that you are now in possession of a deadly weapon it is not a toy and while it can be admired, it's still a very dangerous tool. One mistake, no matter how small, and you could kill yourself or others. You'd do well to remember this.
