You already stated it but "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was the first thing that popped into my head.

All in all, he was just another brick in the Rock 'n Roll Wall.

You know I never "got" Pink Floyd. I think maybe I don't like it because it's so overplayed (our local classic rock radio station plays them CONSTANTLY. Zeppelin and Floyd. That's pretty much it.).

Damn I was just reading about him two days ago- jesus, it's starting to feel like Wikipedia-voodoo is afoot. (this isn't the first time something like this has happened this week)

A friend of mine from college was killed a couple of days ago.

Its probably better that hes dead. He was severely deranged and very sad. It is sadder to note how some people can succumb to stardom (disease) without ever leaving their full mark upon the world.

RIP.

I'm a big fan of Pink Floyd...

If I'm correct, the whole idea of The Wall was based on his life.

The oldest Pink Floyd album that I have is the soundtrack from More, but I prefer their 1970's stuff the most - Meddle, DSOTM, WYWH, Animals, The Wall - believe me, it was a lot of fun to be a teenager with "Hey Teacher leave those kids alone" blaring from speakers everywhere all the time... [grin]

When I was in 8th grade, my buddies and I ditched school at lunch to go listen to the Wall. I only lived two blocks away from the school and the school wasn't fenced so it was an easy thing to do. We put on the brand new record and turned it up loud and there's this part where the voice says "Hey you, stand still with it" or something like that. We were a bit paranoid about ditching and thought that we had been caught! It was only on the second listen that we realized that was part of the song.

Mith makes a good point about the sorry state of rock radio these days. The solution to that is to stop listening to it. That said, DSOTM is easily one of the best albums ever made.

He wasn't the most influential person in Rock history. In fact, he only contributed to 1 and a half Floyd albums, but without him, Pink Floyd would never have happend.
