What do you think our current technology age will be titled in the distant future? Stone Age.. 450,000 - 2000 B.C. Bronze Age.. 2000 - 600 B.C Iron Age.. 600 - 43 A.D. Roman Age.. 43 A.D. - 410 A.D. Saxon and Viking Age.. 410 - 1066 A.D. Medieval Age.. 1066 - 1484 A.D. Industrial Age.. 1484 - 1899 A.D. Modern Age.. 1900 - Today I'm working on a sci-fi project, and want to reference this period using this title. Anyone have suggestions? I know it depends largely on the future itself. For example, I was considering using "Cityscape Age", because surface-built cityscapes have been destroyed in my game's era. I also can't refer to it as the computer age, considering computers will be even more emphasized in my game's era than they are today. Any other suggestions?

Technically I think it's the Information Age.

It depends a bit on what the differences you want to emphasis between pre and post 1900. That cut-off date seems a little arbitrary for the Modern Age so I'll assume a bit of leeway. I'm also assuming your project is Euro-centric given your use of the Roman and Saxon as Ages.

Some other suggestions:
  • Electric Age
  • Oil Age
  • Plastic Age
  • Communication Age
  • Automobile Age

[lol]

I can't use that for the same reason we don't have a "beer age". It will never die; just evolve.

It's the Pre-Space Age!
The next one will of course be the Space Age.

That reminds me of something else that is vastly different in my future setting from our modern age. Everyone is huddled together in one location. There are no seperated countries. I doubt I'll refer to the other ages. I only listed them to get some ideas rolling.

Information Age...

The thing that will usher in a new age is plentiful energy.

The thing that will usher in the age after that is instant and/or very fast transportation.

Maybe then something like the Global Age would work? World wars and government agencies, easy transportation between anywhere on the globe, etc.

Silicon age? Computer age? Digital age?

Although all that stuff didn't get much use before the 70s :) I guess up to that point, industrialisation was the main driving force.

I like Information age better though. The World seems a lot smaller than it used to be.

BTW, Saxon & Viking age is very UK centric. It is usually refered as the Dark Ages. But that itself is very european. [grin]
Everything is better with Metal.

well, I think the most accurate age would be the transistor age, because it was the transistor that changed the WHOLE FACE of the way the world worked.. top to bottom.

Everybody are going to die in a great war age.

I must correct a few things you have written.
First, I am not sure when did the bronze age started, but it was at least before 3000BC.
Second, in the middle east the iron age started at about 1300BC.
So actually, those ages depend on where you look in the world.
Another thing, beer is as ancient as bread.
So they had beer even in 3000BC, so I am not sure what you are going to call beer age.

Silicon age? Computer age? Digital age?

The titles are great. But my game's era will be heavily focused on these themes. My what-if future will be so digital itself, the modern age will not look very digital.

Here's a rough estimate of my fantasy timeline:
Modern.. before 2040
Apocalyptic biological zombie warfare.. 2040 - 2050
Post-apocalyptic struggle to survive. Or new dark age.. 2050 - 2500
Gathering and rebuilding of a single human civilization.. 2500 - 3200
Advancement of that civ.. 3200 - 4100
Current time.. 4100+

Even though the game time is set far ahead of our time, our time will be referenced quite a lot, being the last period of any known technology. Some product styles and designs will be titled as such, giving credit to our modern era as inspiration. I just don't know how to put detail into that without having something to call it.

One other detail I could have mentioned was that there will be no new streets or cars. Transportation will take place on automated monorail type modules. So the whole street/car thing could possibly be used to reference it. The asphalt age :)

I'm not a history buff, but from what I can recall, I think the Dark Age was termed as such because there were no advancements or recordings of history. But I believe I remember reading something about that being proven or at least theorized to be incorrect. That there were indeed actually positive advancements during that time period. I believe that's why the era name changed to "Saxon & Viking age". Again, I'm grabbing at short straws, so don't let any of it sink in.
