Bit of an unfair court order to YouTube.

Yeah exactly, there was meant to be an element of sarcasm to that quote.

So how can the court possibly expect YouTube to obey this and what happens when they don't prevent this video from being uploaded?

This is something they will just have to do to prevent this type of material and copyrighted material being uploaded, which at the moment they don't seem to be bothered about. I thought google would have already thought about this issue since the problems they encountered with there scanning of books.

I have to agree.

I thought it was partially left to the community to decide if a video should be removed.

I didn't think Brazil had any jurisdiction over the comings and goings of YouTube. I probably would've just sent back "Dear Brazilian Court: Fuck you. Love, Popular American Corporation".

So now I suspect YouTube will just block Brazil at large from entering their site. Crisis averted!

Do moderators cost GDNet anything? Does banning a member cost GDNet anything? Appointing volunteer moderators and banning violators with extreme prejudice may not work overnight, but it is just about the quickest and most effective way to prevent the video from being uploaded. When was the last time you actually SAW a one-eyed goat around here? It's been posted a couple of times, but few people have actually seen it, the mods have been very quick about cleaning that stuff up and laying the hammer down on the offenders.

Perhaps this will lead to a more organized YouTube, in an effort to ease moderation, which I feel is a plus. Categories and the ellimination of duplicate entries would be great, and I'm sure YouTube would enjoy the extra disk space.

However, there is something that pisses me off about this. YouTube is owned by Google now. You better believe that Google had a hand in this decision. And it's just another example of the hypocracy of Google. Oh, they'll comply with this court order, but not one from the US Department of Justice!

So if I posted a picture (or link) to child porn here then GameDev should be held responsible? I think that if I did that I am the guilty part. Only if it could be proven that GameDev was aware of my posting and did not remove it, should GameDev also be held responsible.

I agree. Ofcourse YouTube don't condone an upload such as the one in the news article, but it has probably been removed.

Similarly, i would get banned for posting porn here, but there isn't much stopping makng a new account each time and doing it again and again.

Should YouTube ignore those 188 million people who probably represents a great deal of their market share? If a Brazilian court decides YouTube is illegal then it could get very hard (and perhaps illegal) to visit YouTube.

As for a solution. Create a small link to report the video and make sure you write somewhere that it could mean serious trouble for YouTube if it wasn't detected. I'm sure it would be detected by users who want it deleted long before those lawyers gets their hands on it.
