Critique this ad design

Looks great. How did you create the mosaic? You also might consider pitching a story about the ad/poster to the press. I can imagine reading a newspaper article about grassroots volunteer action.

He wants to eliminate the department of education and let states regulate education all by themselves.

Putting all political issues aside for the duration of this comment.

Nice advert for the following reasons:
the text is old school, calligraphy always looks good
The yellow background contributes to the old school campaign poster look.
The mosaic demonstrates that the candidate has popular support

The mosaic needs a higher resolution. At first glance i thought it was Bush... Perhaps because I'm not from the US, I didn't recoognize RP for several seconds. Perhaps if you reduce the size of each tile and move it closer to the center, so theres a shorter fade off into the background and more tiles on the face.

Spelling mistake:

should be
"Ordinary Americans WHO support ..."


Saying no to amnesty? Are you sure? I'm not familiar with the political interpretation of that over in the states, are you referring to any particular organization? Amnesty is generally considered a good thing. Will people vote against something with positive connotations?

It does. We had it at a higher resolution originally, but with only about 1,500 uploaded pictures at the time, it meant each image would duplicate 10-15 times. I think they decided to lower the resolution to avoid the "See, those Ron Paul supporters spam even their own mosaic pictures" critique. Looks good though. I don't see why people are up in arms about eliminating the federal control of education. We've done it for half a decade. News flash! IT DOESN'T WORK!!! So what if people aren't taught 'science' and stuff? They aren't being taught NOW, even though we have federal controlled education.

Also, I went to private schools and was home schooled for a period of time, and was still taught 'science' and evolution and stuff. I say 'science' in quotes, as I was taught what the public generally accepts 'science' to be: A collection of pointless facts. In fact, I took several college physics, chemistry and biology courses while still in high school. I was taught how to think using the scientific method as well, which is real science. Orwell wrote a good article on that subject: What is Science?

Orwell had a rather striking prediction:

Almost all of the services the government provides are funded through real-estate tax, sales tax, etc. The military is funded by corporate income tax... which he wouldn't eliminate.

Also, what's the problem with the gold standard. I don't think he ever said he would eliminate the current 'funny money fiat worthless paper' standard, but that he would simply provide an alternative government-backed money based on the gold standard, and let the market decide which one they use. What's so bad about the gold standard anyways? I've never heard any arguments against it except that "ZOMG GOLD STANDARD LOL!!~~~" Even if it creates problems in distribution of cash or something like that, it does do one important thing well: It prevents the government from taxing people through inflation (yes, inflation is a tax).

I'm willing to be inconvenienced a bit to ensure the government has one less way to screw me over.

Good point. There was some discussion about putting "no federal income taxes" but it didn't quite as strong an effect as "no taxes".

I think the problem is more than just 'secure borders'. While secure borders are nice and all, the real problem needs to be addressed first: Getting law enforcement agencies to stop ignoring immigration problems. INS simply releases illegals back into the country even if local law enforcement tries to round them up. But hell, if you are an illegal and a police department knows about it, they don't do anything. It's ridiculous; no other class of criminals gets ignored by the police.

Also, it might be taken as a bit of a lie putting 'no taxes' on the poster. I mean, obviously some amount of taxes are needed for a government to function, and having 'no taxes' might make him sound like a nutter.

I had never ever heard of Ron Paul before i read this thread, so the only thing i knew about him was what the picture at the top says, which without knowing who he was never mind about details of his presidential promise shows that I have been paying attention to facts, it's just they have been laid out in a form that can easily be misinterpreted.

Cut the pseudopolitical chatter. This topic's about the design of an ad, and not the message. If you don't like the message, that's fine, but I guarantee you there are creatives at ad agencies right now working their asses off on projects of which they strongly disapprove. How do they do it? They're professionals.
