If you have a maximum price you'll pay, why not just say it? Then people know if they are interested without having to email you and try to negotiate. Just name a price and see - if nobody bites you can raise it...

Thank you for your comment, but I don't talk about numbers in the public. I think it's competitive to anything else offered on this board. I am not interested in hiring someone who is just in for the money anyway.

Jester101- while I respect you wanting to keep the price figure off a public forum, I think all that d000hg is trying to say is that some people are at the point in their careers where they have to start accepting work within a set price range. This can be a result of several things:

1) The person's credentials:

If someone begins to land several big name projects with large budgets, then does it make sense for that person to also take on jobs that might only pay $50 for the same amount of work and time put in? Probably not, but yet again there are many professional that still opt to help out. I've done several projects for that low of a price on the side because I enjoy what I do.

2) The person's financial situation:

Some people on here make their entire living off of what they earn in contract (or free lancing) work. Since we all have bills we have to pay, doesn't it make sense for people in that situation to try and earn as much as possible?

3) Studio hardware and software setup:

For those of us in the audio and visual realm, we all know how much top quality software and hardware costs. For example just one package of my samples costs $1000 and I have five packages. My computer costs $3000. To be able to compete on a professional level, I have to be able to work on high quality tools- which means my cost of maintaining the studio is higher.

For you to state "I am not interested in hiring someone who is just in for the money anyway." is rather unfair and not taking into account the many deciding factors for a freelancer when taking a job or not. I have my standards of payment (even though I still sometimes step of out of that range to just help out) but I'm not only about money. I'm about making great games and meeting and working with new teams, but I do still have to consider the fact that my entire living comes from what I do in my home studio. It is how I live, pay rent, buy food and keep my studio up to date.

Those are just some things to consider for you, and others, when they begin to feel that some people are "just in it for the money".

I hope that helps!

I am sorry Nathan, I didn't meant it that way and didn't intended to offend anyone. Of course there is nothing wrong with getting paid professional rates and this doesn't has any effect on whether someone makes good games or not. Still you won't get a number from me in public, but up to now everyone that applied has been satisfied.

The positions will be selected from the current applications. Please don't send any applications anymore.

@karan_s: Sorry I've noticed your post too late, but maybe we can work together in the future.
