How I hate microsoft

Well, if you followed instructions and installed the platform sdk like you were supposed to (it clearly states this on Microsoft's page), you'd be able to find windows.h

What's so bad about Visual Studio 2005? I quite like working with it, especially the debugger.

If you don't like visual studio then go with GCC.

Rather than ranting about Microsoft, how about posting a few specific error messages that you are getting? Chances are you forgot to include a library or set a compiler-specific setting somewhere.

Once you get up and running, and are familiar with some of the debugging features, your life will become that much easier. I have yet to find a compiler that matches the features and ease-of-use of Visual Studio (Eclipse comes close, but just doesn't do it for me).

Trust me - take the time and post a few specific error messages. Chances are at least a few people around here have had the same problem.

Such as? The express edition has some limitations, but it's free. The compiler and debugger are top notch. The professional edition is great. I've had some problems with it on extremely large projects, but for personal use, IMO it can't be beat.

Yep, it's certainly Microsoft's fault that you don't know how to use their software. It should come with on-site service where a tutor will come to your house, set it up, and write your first program for you. [rolleyes]

Sarcasm aside, take a deep breath and relax. Post your error messages, post more detailed information, and we can help you figure out what you are doing wrong. Or if you just want to give up and use a different compiler, go right ahead but don't be surprised if it's made by the "other" WORST Company on earth because you'll probably also have trouble setting it up without reading the documentation.

Or if you're just here for a rant, take it somewhere else.

Sounds like an "EBKAC" to me. I'd write Microsoft and let them know. [grin]

It is not the IDE. What is the error, please?

(On another note, I personally don't like Microsoft because of their horrible coding methods. Other then that, they do manage to make good software, imo)

only thing that sucks about it is that it takes the most amount of time to compile than just about everything out there.

RTFM should be in this thread liberally. Lack of doing so is the reason for the EBKAC.

What Visual Studio spitting out weird errors? Never..

for those wondering that problem was not an overflow of errors, there was only 1, and I fixed it by making a new project and copying all the source into it, which somehow fixed it.

And no, Microsoft didn't invent C++ either. They just provide one of the least horrible set of toolsets for working with the language.
