Christian Morals.....

Ok I used to be a christian and i have nothing against them for the most part, but after reading some of the stuff on a site my friend pointed me too, i think their morals can be way too extreme.... Heres some examples of whats written on the site Futurama -viewer comments... I wouldn''t recommend this show for young children, but I personally find the satire highly amusing. As far as there being aliens in it... well it IS fantasy so I don''t see a problem there. --Cristi, age 23 "Futurama" keeps the tradition of "The Simpsons''" lampooning modern culture, except this time we see 1999 being made fun of by people from 3000! The run down: A pizza delivery (Fry) guy is stuck in a cryogenic chamber and is frozen until 3000. Here he meets a one-eyed woman named Leela and a boozer robot named Bender. At this point, they become something of a UPS for the 31st century, sending packages for Fry''s Great great great great nephew. The good: "The Simpson''s" inspired satire. American''s obession with THINGS and television is kept here. The funny characters and creative aliens (it''s FANTASY, so aliens exist, don''t take it too personal). The ability of the major chartacters to put their friends in front of their personal needs. The bad: There IS a bit of sex and iffy language. In one scene Leela goes to bed with an ego-driven ship captain (to her defense, she regrets it quite a bit, and we all see that one mistake like this can have long lasting consequenses). Also, Bender drinks quite a bit and is brash at times. The ugly: Leela''s one eye!! Eeek! Overall, this is NOT a cartoon for kids. Mature teens and adults can enjoy it if they keep it in moderation and do not let it get in way of their relationship with God. --Justin, age 22 I can agree that the show is blasphemous and just downright nasty. I''d also never let my kids or myself anywhere near it... --Bob Smith, age 50 Not only does this show contain sexual innuendo, blasphemy against our faith, and promotes the false belief in alien life forms, but it also takes place in the year 3000 (by which time the rapture will most likely have come)... --Eddie Reynolds, age 25 Monty Python''s Flying Circus (Re-runs) -viewer comments... This is the most morally bankrupt piece of trash I have ever seen. Full of blasphemy, sick violence and levels of profanity and nudity that would be unacceptable on network TV in America (which itself contains too much), no decent Christian should go near this trash, and the fact that it is regarded as ''classic'' shows how this country needs firmer Christian values. --Chet, age 21 The Simpsons -viewer comments... I think this show deserves a huge bursting red A (avoid) for its rating. Why? There are too many reasons. Some include swearing and unpoliteness, violence and discrimination. Bart swears a lot in the show, and always disagrees with his father, who is NOT a good role model in the family at all! Marge is the only level headed one in the entire show. Sometimes this show has a section about a mouse and cat doing terribly violent things to themselves or each other. It is very disturbing and is terribly graphic (as graphic as a cartoon can be). Also, they make fun of Christianity or are completely against it (There was one show where Bart was praying and I think all he said was what he wanted. And when it came to the thanking God part, he replied "Oh, I don''t have to thank God for anything. What did God give me anyway?" -- it was something in that context.) I found it very sad that people enjoy this show and it should be placed in the same category as "South Park". --NK, age 14 I can''t believe that the blatant cynicism and mockery of Christ in the droning character of the town preacher, and Ned Flanders the bumbling nerd/Christian next door neighbor, combined with Bart''s consistent cursing don''t get this show an Avoid with a capital A. I don''t think there''s anything Christians should find funny in any of that. Of course, the show *is* meant to be an outrageous parody on life in the suburbs. Although it thankfully avoids sexual innuendo most of the time, it''s still pretty disturbing. It''s the first show in a sequence of lower standards that have left us with the likes of SouthPark. What''s next?! --Grant, age 26 The Weakest Link -viewer comments... I find this show very demeaning to the participants and viewers. It is cut-throat in nature and promotes mean-spiritedness and emnity between the participants. The sharp-tongued hostess is cold and cutting to the participants, an act, no doubt, but it is being done in such a way as to make it seem not only acceptable, but actually "cool". A very confusing message for younger viewers. For adults with the stomach to watch such rancor, it''s probably interesting, even amusing. I personally don''t find it to be enjoyable entertainment. --P Tropepe, age 41 The X-Files -viewer comments Although many of the opinions expressed about the X-Files refer to the quality of the writing and other production aspects of the show, one cannot overlook the blatant occult messages presented in this program. I have viewed only about three full episodes and found the shows content definitely not for Christian viewing. On one notable episode, the subject matter dealt with Voodoo and transmutation. In another episode (and apparently many of the other shows) deal with extraterrestrials. Christians need to be aware that these "extraterrestrials" are actually inter dimensional beings that the Bible has clearly identified as demons... --Todd Warren Rugrats -viewer comments... [go to movie review] In the past, I felt there was no harm in my children watching this program. Today, there is no problem with our 10 year old, but our 7 year old was acting like Angelica showing no respect toward others. There were only two places she learned this behavior, the T.V., or the Christian school (a good school) she attends. She watched Rugrats for years, and is not allowed to watch it anymore. She cannot differentiate between who''s behavior is good and who''s is not acceptable. --Craig Belmont, age 44 How can they have a go at Rugrats? This is stupid.. oh but then there is the games area of the site too QUAKE 3 I personally do not like this game. ...First off we have the graphics which like in most ID games scream satan worship. Must every Wall be covered in Flesh and Satanic Symbols? It succeeds in making the enviornment more evil but not more fun. I personally find seeing upside down crosses and demonic statues a turn off. As for the weapons they are unimaginative and rather bland. The Graphic Quality of the engine is displayed throughout the game is nothing short of beautiful showing off the capabilities of the Quake 3 Engine although I''d wish that they would get rid of the evil symbols. The Music ranges from some sort of gothic nightmare, to high energy techno and dance music. The Ambient Sounds add to this Balantly Satanic monstrosity. While they are good in quality, They are still satanic. For Gameplay This is a POOR choice for modem users as the bots are terrible and from where I am I had a hard time finding servers that were good enough. I also disagree with the balance in weapons. The Lighting Gun just doesn''t seem to be very good and the grenade launcher is an utterly useless weapon tending to hurt the user more than the enemies... My Ratings: [1/2] --Anon., age 17 Unreal Tournament I checked this game out in demo, pre-release form as part of a cyber party where I and a few friends create a LAN and play games for hours. The game play and graphics are so incredible and adrenaline-building, I was hooked for a while. I even installing the production version to further evaluate whether or not I wanted to purchase the game. That''s when I realized that there is no pretense in this game about the designed-in attitude toward violence. As written in the review, violence against your neighbor is the purpose of the game, and the violence is graphic. The level of gore/dismemberment and type of allowable taunts might be adjustable, but when playing, the violence of what your weapon does to the opponent is ALWAYS extreme. And I realized that I had been suppressing a sense of revulsion at the violence for the sake of the engaging gameplay and action. So, I uninstalled it and returned the game while asking the Lord to help me learn from this. If you are playing this game, I encourage you to question to what degree you are becoming insensitive to wanton, gruesome violence against your neighbor. Soldier-play has its purpose, even for Christians, but this game goes too far. My Ratings: [2/5] --Bruce Bawcom, age 33 DOOM "The player is seen as merely a hand with a gun ready to kill. At first you think your mission is to save your Marine friends, but you quickly find out that they are either already dead or under the demons’ control. Your only hope for survival is to kill your friends or be killed by them. You are literally being trained to kill your "friends." When they die, you see their blood spatter on the dark and eerie walls. You hear the demons growling and you know they are lurking around every corner. You can almost feel them breathing down the back of your neck. The fright is real! As you fight your way through each level, you notice many of your Marine friends disemboweled and crucified with pentagrams drawn on the walls in their blood. When you end up being killed by the progressively bigger and badder demons on each new level, the screen pans back to show your dying body crumpled to the ground and the bloodthirsty demons eating you like a piece of meat. The game is completed only after you have survived a great number of levels, each requiring scores if not hundreds of hours to master." "It is not illegal to kill demons but this game definitely teaches to shoot first and ask questions later. As stated earlier your "friends" have now become the enemy and you must kill them to survive. Unlike police training where you are taught to identify "good guys" from "bad guys", anything that moves is your enemy and should be blasted instantly--even your friends! Extra points are given for a shot in the head." "Playing for many hours could be cause for anxiety and/or depression.
