Recommend me a good 2.1 speaker set

I've been chained to my desk more or less literally by headphone cables for far too long. In my old tiny apartment I used to have a stereo cable that ran from my headphone jack across the room to my nice 5.1 speakers, which I used when I got tired of headphones; but now I'm living in a larger house and my 5.1 rig is an entire flight of stairs away from my work machine. So I'm in the market for some decent 2.1 speakers. Not looking to drop a huge amount of cash here; I just want something that will get a decent tone response and make my music audible from more than just my chair. Top-shelf is not necessary since I already have some great studio headphones for doing mixing work and that kind of stuff. So... enlighten me, oh GameDev.

I'm a big fan of Alec Lansing's equipment...Logitech, on the other hand, has consistently underwhelmed me somehow. They have several different options, and their MSRP is pretty much ranked by quality.

I have the 5.1 version of these Logitech x230 speakers and they do great job. No audible distorsion even at maximum volume and they look good too, at least in my opinion.

They are super.

logitech is the way forward imo.

I recently got Logitech Z-4 speakers. I have no complaints about their sound quality, although I have only tried them with an old budget sound blaster and my new onboard audio so far. They have plenty of power for a computer speaker setup; I run them at about 1/6-1/3 of their max volume typically. The (wired) remote has a convenient headphone jack, among other things. Overall I am very happy with them.

My Dad has a 2.0 Altec Lansing set that came with a Gateway computer that he got a bit over a decade ago and they still sound very good for things that don't need a subwoofer. I don't personally know if their new stuff is still up to the same standards though.

I use/love my Klipsch promedia 2.1
The price seems to vary from 100-150, I don't know if that's too much for what you want? It's a design/system that's been around for a long time now, and I think there's good reason for that.
The logitech z2300 are also good, but they cost a little more. From what I read in most reviews before I bought my speakers, they tend to be a little less musical, and a lot more thunderous, with heavy bass. If you look at the specs, the Klipsch have slightly larger woofers, the logitech have a larger sub (and no tweeters), and the amp-power is also biased in the same manner for both.

Bose makes a good 2.1 speaker setup. Theyre usually on sale at best buy too.

Ive got a 2.0 speaker setup from Bose and Im pretty impressed. Im sure the sub is very nice.
One thing thats really cool about my speakers is that there are 2 inputs, so I can hook both my computers into it and get sound from both simultaneously. Just a nice feature.
