10 Team name: We call ourselves the 'Dig Team'; we all have a huge passion and fascination for dinosaurs, and anything prehistoric. We believed the name was quite a fitting reflection for the work in development, which basically involves bringing dinosaurs back to life in a real time 3D environment! (This is not a registered company) Project name: Lost World Returns is our flagship name for the project, and we have been using it for over 3 years. There is no IP infringement and it does not reflect anything to do with the Jurassic Park, or the Arthur Conan Doyle franchise) Brief description: Lost World Returns has been in development for over three years, originating back to the days of the game 'Operation Flashpoint'. Since then it has evolved into many forms and has been a very exciting journey. As it stands now, we are at the pinnacle stages of development and we now have the technology to really bring our visions to life. We operate this project under a 'Modding' status, with a team of professional and semi professional individuals joining together across the globe. Our main purpose is to re create a realistic dinosaur adventure platform that gives the player freedom of choice, in terms of physical movement and non scripted gameplay. We strive to be as realistic as possible and every specie we produce undergoes weeks of detailed research making sure our dinosaurs are as accurate as possible. Our team is 20 strong, spanning the globe, we try to push the boundaries and we believe we are at the forefront of this genera, creating real time dinosaur interaction with its environment and the player in one of the most advanced game engines to date (Cry engine2) Target aim: Our target status as of now is 'modders', a group of individuals working towards a united goal over the internet. We heavily modify the original game engine, to our requirements. We believe we have the capability to expand into possible commercial and educational ventures in the near future. Compensation: Unfortunately we are not in a position to offer any paid work, we all work on this in our free time, however if an opportunity should arise of a commercial interest then payment and contracts would be handed out. Technology: Engine Languages = C++ // LUA Primary Artists Tools = Zbrush // Autodesk Maya // Autodesk 3D Max // Photoshop SDK Tools = 3D Max import/export Plug-ins // Sandbox editor Documentation = Fully documented guides, created by the developers Target systems = Medium to high end machines, to run the game, requires a fairly good graphics card. Talent needed: We are in aid of some experienced or self taught individuals who understand C++ and LUA code, and are able to implement game play changes as well as AI development. Ideally we would want someone who is passionate about the general theme of the project, and would be able to commit and help develop the project. Each member has a huge value of input in the project and nothing is set in stone. Our main concerns are people who would be able to commit to the long run of the project, but not necessarily spend 24/7 working on it. We have a higher value for committed members as opposed to 'here for the job' members. If you are not a programmer, and you think you can help, please contact us. However we are seeking the following. AI Programmer/coder - Should be able to create specific specie characteristics for each dinosaur specie, allowing the player to learn and understand the dinosaur and its familiarities - Allow species of dinosaurs to interact with the game world, as well as each other - Basic eco system structure, allowing dinosaurs to have the need to replenish, hunt, smell and defend their territories. - Work well with the animation team Game-play Programmer/coder - Should be able to redesign existing codes or heavy edit them to fit our purposes. - Should have knowledge of C++ or LUA, as well as using a flow graph system - Be a team player, and have the enjoyment of working on such a theme If I missed something, and you feel you could add something please dont hesitate to conact us. Team structure: Ogre (Bret Watkins) Is co lead, and takes responsibility of the level design team and prop creation. Has been with us for just over 4 months. Joe An ex Crytek employee, professional character artist, and has been with us for over a year. Neon (Borris) Is our lead 3D max animator, a self taught individual and now works in the industry. He has been with us for over two years Macco Is our lead Maya animator, a self taught individual currently still at college. He has been here since the beginning HP (Helder Pinto) Is one of our 3d artists, who moved on from level design, to help build is portfolio in asset creation. He has been with us for one year. Andrew Is our lead concept artists, located in Sweden and is studying game design. He has been with us for a year and a half Nick Gregory (SmileyNick) Is the project lead and has been running it for over three years. General duties include daily management of the team, team meetings, website updates, PR, recruitment; design documents, any other issue that may arise. Hawke Is another 3d artist, located in Germany. He focuses on prop creation and has been with us for over one year Jason One of our Maya animators has joined us roughly two months ago. Jimboob One of our level designers, has been with us for two years Kristijan Our lead level designer has been with us for five months. Tim Our Main dinosaur artist, specializing in Zbrush sculpting. Man felt he had controlled it, had contained it, and began to understand it. But the forces of nature were never meant to be controlled, to be contained. Or, it seemed, to be understood. Until now. A Japanese research ship is stranded on an unknown island in the Atlantic. Time and tide have laid waste to the barren facilities there, once built to contain and study the most fantastic and terrible lizards ever to have existed. Welcome to the age of the dinosaurs. Jump back in time in an adventure that will intrigue, thrill and terrify you. As hired mercenary Johann van de Beer, you will fight to protect your friends and confound your enemies. As Dr. Saskia Brezhnev, you will learn to understand this ancient land and find clues to solve the mystery of what really happened. Together you must survive as you dodge gunfire, careen through lush forest and face the most fearsome creatures to have ever walked the Earth, in this action-packed adventure. Hi everyone, just to let everyone know we managed to get a coder/lua scripter on board so we are very excited now.

There are still positions open for anyone who thinks they might be able to help. We also managed to get into the top 100 of "Mod of the year" awards, a global event every year.

Thanks for reading!

Is this the same project that was posted on moddb.com? You've definitely got some top notch looking art.

Hi, yes this is the same project as the one shown on moddb, thanks for the kind words!

Those are some beautiful screenshots. Are you using an existing game engine for this?

Hi, yes we are. The engine is "cryengine” that powers the blockbuster title "crysis" that was released over a year ago now. It’s not as popular as source or unreal due to the fact it’s still a very young engine.

Engine specs can be found here - http://www.crytek.com/technology/cryengine-2/specifications/

How did you get your hands on such a high-power engine? I thought you had to impress Crytek before they'd even allow you to pay them thousands of dollars for a license!

Hi guys, really amazing looking stuff!

If you feel you would need yet another coder I might be interested in joining you. I have experience with both C++ and Lua as well as 3D game programming.

According to the web site you only have one programmer currently (+ one more gained recently?). I should think there is place for one more :)

But really, how DID you get your hands on the CryEngine?

I think there might be some confusion. We do not own a licence for cryengine2, as much as we would love to we are not ready to pitch until we have our AI sorted out. I believe we have the potential to aim for a commercial interest down the line, but as it stands now we are making sure everything works before we start contacting Crytek to pitch our design.

In the time being, we are “modding” the engine that comes with the game “crysis”, the developers released all the SDK tools for everyone to use, however strictly as “free” based modifications.

Cryengine2 is in the regional of one million dollars, and only a handful of game studios have purchased it for their up and coming titles.

@ guywithbeard

We always welcome people who can help the project, so there is defiantly a space for you, feel free to send me an email if you want to talk in detail. Thanks.

I think they have stated in several occasions that its a mod project for Crysis, so no engine licensing is needed (the SDK with C++ gamesource is out there for everyone). This way they can show their competence and then later on have good standpoint to discuss possible licensing for commercial purposes.

To the post/project itself: I'm really excited to see what they can produce. Their work shows good quality and deserves certainly more positive publicity, hopefully people wont confuse your work too much with Jurassic Park.
