IT ROCKS! to exapnd a bit. Level design is great, love the crescendos (inifite zombie spawn until you accoplish an objective), the finale are very cool, great weapons, great characters, gore-tastic, special infected, everything what L4D wanted to be imo. So much more than L4D redux! Don't miss out on the fun and gore! [grin] Favorite weapons, magnum and AK, and of course the CHAINSAW!!!

I'm enjoying it, but the last few days a good server has been impossible to connect to for some reason.

AK + laser sight = WIN.

My biggest gripes are that they somehow managed to nerf the AI and there's a rampant bug which resets all your achievements. However I expect those issues to be patched quickly and it's otherwise a fantastic game (and I haven't even ventured beyond Campaign mode yet)!

I only played the demo but I have to disagree. Its WAY to similar to L4D 1 to be worth another 50 bucks.

Dont get me wrong, its really fun, and slightly better, just not enough of a
difference.

It's fun, but am I the only one who feels that the characters aren't as talkative/funny as in the first one? They seem comparably quiet, and there isn't as much back and forth. The dialog seems a lot more straight forward as well, and not as witty or creative. The action parts are pretty intense, but the dialog lacking makes the beginning of levels [and certain quiet parts through the middle] feel a bit flat as compared to the first.

I agree with some of the above posters. It just feels way too much like the original one to be worth $60. Melee weapons, a couple of new special zombies and daytime levels just aren't enough. While melee weapons are the biggest game changer, most other FPS games have had melee weapons for years.

I guess what could have really changed my opinion would have been more story-based action. It is still the same formula of: 1. Move from Point A to Point B, 2. Trigger swarms of undead at various points. I would have loved to see more cutscenes between Acts, more talking to increase the story, and more varied action scenes. Each movie-inspired campaign still adds nothing more to the game than a new location.

EDIT: I also did not think the level design was all that great. At least not across the board. It did have some good ones, but there were some quite drab settings that had no personality.

Rented it for Xbox. It was as enjoyable as the last one. The dialogue is great, like Ellis talking about retarded red-neck things. Agreed though that it is way too similar to the old one. Basically the same game repackaged with new levels and a couple new zombies. Although, Halo has been an exact copy over the years. It is still a very fun game.

Well, it's a first person shooter, and you shoot zombies. In the same respect, you can compare it with any FPS franchise made, personally it has more content added than say, MW2 (not trying to start a flame war, just my opinion). I still enjoy MW2, or any franchise well made (Half Life, cant wait for EP3, what sort of monster are they creating down there?).

I don't really see how they could have make the IP move forward, L4D2 feels like a more accomplished and rounded L4D. I enjoy it immensely, what sets it apart for me is the pacing, compared to the first one.

I've seen a video of it running and, to be honest, if you hadn't told me L4D2 existed I would have assumed it was a mod. Nothing stood out as being obviously different apart from new weapons and maps.

My friend has it for PC so I should get a look at it tonight. Didn't absolutely adore the first one though.

I preordered it, got the demo and canceled my pre-order. Not worth $50 at all. I'll buy it when it's on sale for $20.

Don't forget the Four Pack, which is $150 (~$38 per person, $32 if you pre-ordered). That's certainly a lot more reasonable compared to a game like MW2 which is $60 per person.

Yeah, the pre-order four pack brought it down to expansion price so it was totally fine by me. I still stand by calling it an expansion; it's better than before, with more variety, but it does feel like the same game.

Not that that is a bad thing, but I don't blame anyone for the "$50/60 is too much" mentality.

And yeah, laser sight AK is insane. Most shots are 1 hit kills and it's accurate enough to run n' gun. I'm glad it's strong, though, because if you don't let the survivors reach the end in versus everyone just rage quits immediately. Overpowered weapons are better than the alternative.

My main problem: Matchmaking sucks balls, and every bug I had in the first one is still here, and some new (critical) bugs are here. The game is fantastic when it's working, but it often takes half an hour of frustration to get to that point.

I'll buy it when it is $15 9/10 months from now after they announce L4D3.

I bought it pre-ordered from a four-pack in the states, which brought to down to 27 euros for me, which was quite affordable.

I however, do like the game and enjoy. They expanded quite a bit, the new game modes are awesome(esp. Scavenge Hunt), esp. when combined with the new team matchmaking system.

However, I do have to agree with some people here. It feels too much like an expansion set, instead of a completely new game. The game feels pretty much the same, even tho it has more weapons, weapons spawning at different locations and more scattered throughout the map and melee weapons.

The new special infected are cool. Where the boomer was the most feared zombie in L4D, the Jockey appears to be more feared in 2. Esp. when controlled properly in versus modes, you can easily take down someone with it.

I liked campaign mode, but versus mode has been substantially "noobified". Not alot of hunter high-pounce damage places, and hard to hide as the infected.

Still, if you find yourself on a slow team, you can now rush to the safe room by yourself and still get all the points (minus 75 if the rest of your team dies, plus maybe a kick vote because they died without you holding their hands).

60USD? Console player? Yeah. L4D sucks on consoles anyways.

I bought my copy for 32USD. Worth every penny. The game is actually fun now, and is no longer a corner-campfest due to spitter & charger.

It's definitely not been playtested very well, however, as many bugs that were patched out of L4D1 ages ago are present in L4D2. For example:

- If you are a ghost infected, and something 'stunning' goes off (propane, explodyboomer, etc), your ghost will get stunned.

- If you hold crouch while incapped, your pistol is more accurate.

There are more bugs too:

- Charger has some wonky off-center hitbox for charging. Also random bullshit like running through survivors and doing nothing, and conversely, completely missing and having a survivor then warp to your arm and get pounded. It's not lag either, this happens often on a server with <40 ping.

- Getting stuck in walls. Last game I played this happened five times. There was no cure except for killing the survivor (dead dead, not incapped) and reviving with a defib.

They have also managed to make the boomer and smoker even more worthless and not fun to play. The smoker has an even weaker tongue that requires a specific alignment of the planets to contact. The boomer has about half the range as in l4d1 so you basically have to be in melee range to hit the survivors....

All in all it's pretty fun, and still much more fun than the campfest that is l4d1 despite all the terrible bugs.

Also you can do fun stuff like hit the strength gong in the circus map as the tank to set off a panic event and other such fun things.

I am not positive it is $60 on consoles, only assuming since that is the regular price of new console games.

I don't know. Prices don't seem to be dropping as fast on current-gen games as they did on the PS2 and XBox 1.

I really enjoyed L4D. Played the hell out of it.

TBH, I wasn't that keen when L4D2 was announced and wasn't sure if I'd get it. But a few friends were keen so we bought a 4 pack (worked out at ~NZ$45, so [razz] to you $120 MW2). Then the demo came out and I still wasn't convinced. Sure the frying pan was fun and the reconfigured levels were clever, but it was all pretty so-so (although I liked the new specials). But I decided to give the game a chance.

And I'm so glad I did. IMHO, the demo is a poor representation of the full game. It has almost none of the really "wow" moments of the full version (the rollercoaster, the bridge crossing, the room on fire, the storm) and no chainsaw. It's also missing realism mode, scavenge mode and versus. I'm loving it.

Don't judge the game by the demo. It's got way more in it.

Would be nice if the fixed the achievements bug though!
