☼ INTRODUCTION ☼ SOUL DRAGON™ is a "Third Person RPG" in the vain of some best-selling RPG’s by the world-renowned producer "Hironobu Sakaguchi." Look for elements from games such as "Blue Dragon, Brave Fencer Musashi", as well as the Final Fantasy-series." The game follows the story of "Zad Fenix" as he discovers the true origin and history of the "Soul Dragon’s" and how a secret has been dwelling inside of him all his life, only to be released as the adventure begins. "Dreqal Xupiter" is the main antagonist as he heads the "ARC" (Armendelith's Research Center) where they are trying to develop ”fake-cell generation” which will enable the user to gain half the strength of a true "Soul Dragon." This is bad news for anyone in his way, as well as the crew that is trying to stop him. Dreqal’s ultimate goal is to find a portal to the ”Chamber of Life” where all Soul Dragon’s go to lay un-distubed as a final resting place. This portal is said to be just a myth, but Dreqal’s natural greed for power pushes him to follow any thread he can find. It is said that the one who enters the Chamber of Life is immediately granted the full forces of every Soul Dragon that has ever lived, thus making them virtually indesctructable. Will the myth prove true? Can Zad and the party prevent Dreqal to find it and save the Soul Dragon-specie? What else is hidden within the Chamber of Life? Join us during the development of SOUL DRAGON™ and see for yourself. ☼ GAME PLAY ☼ SOUL DRAGON™ will feature full 3D graphics (equivalent to Final Fantasy X), Solid/fixed camera positions, turn-based battle system and much, much more. We are currently in the design phase so designers (preferrably with experience) are welcome! We are aiming for 120G/H+ (120 Gaming Hours - possibly more) with a deep story. There is nothing better than a really deep story -- a story that you easily can get attached to and can tell your friends about. The same applies to the game. We want to reach out to the world and we really don't know how yet. There will also be amazing puzzles and hard-solved riddles in this game. ☼ CHARACTERS ☼ Here is some of the characters in the game: Cecil Silfer: "- Was that your best shot?" Young, beautiful and somewhat mysterious. Cecil met Zad while she was hunting down a thievery-cat in the capital city, Armendelith. Hake Maham: "- Duh...how much horsepower does it got?" Strong, muscle-load, cocky & good looking mechanic but an incredible idiot. Cecil was his first true love but she found him cheating on her. He got soul-weak and started drinking. No one has seen him since his auto shop, Maham, went out of business. Rahfu Mascat: "- Take a swing, I dare ya!" Frisky. Rahfu is the cat with the misfortune with him everywhere. Rahfu has always been poor and an outcast with his aunt until he managed to get into drama-school where he developed his talents. Which he failed. Note! Alot of details unshared! Zad Fenix Note! This is a sample of the key-character in SOUL DRAGON™ made in paint to show you guys what kind of genre of art we want. ☼ DEVELOPMENT TEAM-NAME ☼ SDD-TEAM© (Soul Dragon Development Team) soon known as Dreamplay®. Note! The finished logo-type of Dreamplay® will arrive soon! Additional Quote I choose to speak from my heart. People call us "dreamers" and I still don't know why? We have resisted among the harshest critics "story-writers" like us can receive. People call us crazy because we visualize a future as the world's "first" team built out of individuals which can deliver a console-game like Square Enix® and other world-renowned game development-companies can. There are people, "destined" to create everything within creativity and aesthetics. They say that the most talented artists are on the "streets" and there is where I want to turn myself to inspire, motivate and collect their talents and become (what I visualize) the world's first group of individuals who will be delivering console-games like the others can. I know that you guys exist. Support us in SDD-TEAM© aka Dreamplay® by joining us and help us show the largest and best-selling development-oriented companies that we, we can too, and that "education" and "money" isn't always the most important thing. Dreamplay® is a soon registered game development team that will lead us to success. We chose to create a name that would represent the broken dreams most of us have had an experience of. Dreamplay® consists of "Dream" to represent the "dreams" we all have/had within all the categories of "game-development." (I understand that many of you on Gamedev.net have had dreams and had them crushed when the projects fell apart.) "Play" represents the "started" and "finished" projects and games we will create and be able to play through with the help of daring you to dream again. We want to encourage people to join us for precisely the reason why Dreamplay® will be a successful "company" in the future with a solid and durable team that is experienced within the "broken dreams" category and now wish to dedicate themselves to actually start projects and to finish them. "- We are special... ...so are you." ☼ GAME TITLE ☼ ENGLISH ► SOUL DRAGON™ JAPANESE ► ソウルイータードラゴン™ ☼ BRIEF DESCRIPTION ☼ I want to create a game we have decided to name SOUL DRAGON™ and the goal of this "soon" launched project is to achieve a design in class with the Final Fantasy X-game created by Square Enix®. I am talking about fully 3D-design surfaces, Solid/fixed camera positions, turn-based battle system and much, much more. ☼ COMPENSATION ☼ Note! My visions is to create one of the most famous (hobby) games created by individuals so the only thing that could possibly be a compensation is an incredible portfolio-upgrade. ☼ RECRUITING OF NEW MEMBERS NEEDS: ☼ Concept-artists 1: Everything within the art-category. 2: Knowledge within concept-art with great proportional views and quality. 3: Must have a great sense of clothing, environments, buildings, vehicles, airships, details, shading, weapons, armors, emotions, dragons, monsters, creatures, accessories, special-effects etc. You know what I mean? 4: A portfolio with something to prove before recruitment will be accepted. 5: Be cheerful, pleasant and be able to take critics of your art. 6: Have fun while you're working. 7: A few hours on MSN Messenger every week. 3D (Three-dimensional) Concept Art 1: Knowledge about everything within concept-art as the category above. 2: Must have a great knowledge in Blender and Python within every design to render and visualize. 3: A portfolio with something to prove before recruitment will be accepted. 4: Be cheerful, pleasant and be able to take critics of your art. 5: Have fun while you're working. 6: A few hours on MSN Messenger every week. Video-frequencies & Cordinations 1: Knowledge within Video-frequencies, scripts, rendering, battle cordinates, battle-style, special effects etc. 2: Must have a sense of buildings, fantasy landscapes, shading, details etc. 3: A portfolio with something to prove before recruitment will be accepted. 4: Be cheerful, pleasant and be able to take critics of your work. 5: Have fun while you're working. 6: A few hours on MSN Messenger every week. Yes sorry about that. I just speedwrote everything. We are looking for a huge number of people and as soon as they feel they're right for this project they can send an request. :) Sorry about that "giant" missunderstanding. :)

There's a mandatory template. Also, you're looking for people with a lot of experience here. Realize that the years you are measuring here are measuring hobbyists: in other words, a freshman in high school would have possibly more free time than an adult with a full time job. If both learn for for three years, one might learn more. It really shouldn't matter on how long they've been doing an action. What you should be doing is requesting to see previous work band judging them by the quality and quantity. What if someone is extremely efficient in a skill and has been doing it for two months but has professional quality? You'd turn them down even though other people may have been doing the same action for years but making no progress?

Hi,

I don't mean to be rude, but don't you think you are asking too much for a new team?

You think "people don't believe in my dream". But do you ever think "why they don't"? We (people reading your post) don't know you. You are, for us, just a guy who claims to be able to manage a huge team and create a game that is really awesome. Why would anyone believe that? Through a post, you can't even express your passion, so that leaves pretty much nothing to begin with.

If you want experienced and skilled people to pursuit *your* dream, you should give them a reason to do it. Do you have a portfolio? Has your team ever completed a project? Why are you different from other dreamers, that never get anything done?

If you can answer these questions, you should make the answers appear in your post. Otherwise, I would say, review your expectations (and your requirements). That's not necessarily a bad thing, getting real is the first step to getting something done. I would also not "just speedwrite everything". You are asking people to dedicate their free time (and lots of it) to your project. What are they supposed to think, if you don't dedicate your time to write a clear proposal?

A more specific point, your programming requirements are too unprecise. Which language are you expecting people to know? Which graphics API?

I'm sorry if the critics are too tough, they are meant to be constructive. I admire your dream, but you really need to improve your approach if you're expecting to make it more than a post.

Hi Rosalia! :)

First of all, I must excuse myself for being a lazy dumbass. :) And second of all, I DO understand your opinions and I respect your hard critics. I now you all are thinking of me as one person with high hopes but I do think if we all talanted artists work together we can achieve something greater than the world has ever seen through this angle of game development. I know, it's hard to trust a guy who just speedwrote an request but I must say I am 100% procent devoted to this team and project. I have no job, a small income every month and I have always been dreaming of succeeding of creating this kind of team to show the development-companies that regular people can too. I'm sorry if I'm not polite enough or the high level-recruitment experience is too high. Please, this is a project I will dedicate my life into and I will respect every employee as much as a person can respect another person. :)

Kind regards.
Fredrik.

Sorry to sound rude but so far you have presented nothing that shows you have any possibility of getting this done. Its another classic "idea man" looking for people to do all the work posts. This is the same thing all the other dozens of "work now, maybe get paid later" ads posted here every week say. You want people with experience to work for you but yet you have none. Its good to dream big but sometimes you need to be a bit realistic. How much of the game is done other then a couple of paragraphs? You've at least got a completed design doc that is big enough to kill a cat right? There is a lot of prep work that needs to be completed before you start thinking about making the "best RPG ever". You say you have a creative background so why don't you show us what you have done for the game so far.

They may not have things done for the game they plan now, but that doesnt mena they are not experienced at all. SDD team just need to post up examples of any of their work, they dont have to show us their game design document of course, but if they have done any previous work before, then that should be enough.

My suggestion to the SDD team, the story your writing, write a series of books about it, if your good at writing this story, then you can gain a decent income with a series, if you know a bit about selling books :P (I.e. publishers of books etc). Perhaps then you can properly hire people to work on this game, as greatly talented as some on here may be.

Good luck!

Hey guys!

Very harsh criticism here, isn't it? :) First, you say that "work now, and get paid later." I never said that this WAS a paid job! :) I just said that if I manage to put together the ultimate development team that can create what we have achieved so far in the story and turn it into a powerful role-playing game on a console and get it sold worldwide, I would be more than happy to pay (as I explained as a "reward") all members within the team. The reason I went to a forum in the gaming category is because I want to first see how many and what types of people who would be "interested" to see whether it's worth continuing. I have received many generous offers now from Gamedev.net and also from DeviantART.com which is the world's leading art community online. :)

Thank you for the harsh criticism and I am glad to receive your critics! :) But I want to remind you again that this is an interest-related topic I posted here and want to see who would be interested in this great task.

"How much of the game is done?"
If I'm going to put a percentage rate figure of what is done in the story I would say 5% done. It may sound a little but since we are aiming for 120G/H+ (game-hours), or perhaps more, there is a lot of writing finished. The process is slow because I am a Swedish citizen and not an english so grammar failures occurs frequently during the process. In other related tophics to SDD-TEAM© is the "system menu" which is basically finished. Percentage-wise, I would say 85% is done. Soul Dragon™ will be a turn-based fantasy role-playing game for a console and Final Fantasy® X™ is probably a good example of the kind of genre we're aiming for. 15 character biographics are finished writing and the other characters is still in process which look as following:

CHARACTER TEMPLATE:
Name: ...
Career: ...
Attitude: ...
Age: ...
Weapon: ...
Weapons Information: ...
Weapon Overdrives: ...
Length: ...
Date Of Birth: ...
Hometown: ...
Specie: ...
SD Form or SS (Soul Summon): ...
SD or SS Overdrive: ...
Character Information: ...
...and so continuing...

Feel free to criticize how best you want and ask related questions. :) I'm more than happy to answer your questions about it if the questions are serious. :)

Fredrik.

Just so you know... even if you manage to get any programmers with you on this project, you won't be able to develop the game for a console. Unless it's for a handheld portable device, which are relatively easy to develop homebrew software for.
SDKs (Software Development Kits) for consoles are extremely expensive, costing thousands of dollars.
The only way you'll be able to develop for a console is to do it in C# with XNA for the XBox 360. But I don't think XNA has the graphical capabilities to rival Square-Enix. I'm not absolutely sure, I kinda suck at programming graphics.

As a friend said to me quite recently over msn is that we'll begin to develop the game for PC. It is a smart move and a great start, and we (if we think it's good enough) will reformat everything into PS2- or PS3-coding instead. According to my friend there is nothing that is known as "impossible" within this tophic, but so that everyone knows now who read this and are interested, we start up programming the game for PC. It is the easiest way and also a way to develop alot faster.

NOTIFY! See also the updated headers. I have put out boxes[ ] next to the tophics to show which slots is still open!

Have a continued great day!

Fredrik.

@SDD-Team - Good luck with your endeavors. My only advice would be to learn how to eat an elephant. That aside, if things dont work out or your project doesnt get off the ground dont get discouraged. Learn from your mistakes and try and again and again. You might find out down the road that starting smaller or completing something first on your own will net you more positive attention than your getting now when you pitch future projects.

Good luck.

Thank you for your inspiring words with the elephant part! :)
That aside, this project will not fail. That's the problem with people. They don't trust themselves to do such a task. That is why every big (newborn) project often fails. We have NOONE who have accomplished to do such a task and gotten their team-name in the history-book of game development. I want to achieve this great goal I visualize.. I want to motivate you talanted artists to join us and reach the finish on this increadible journey together! Believe in us! Believe in yourselves and then join us!

Kind regards

hi fredrik! i can feel the passion you have to make such a game. as a founder myself, i have few suggestions for you, cause i'm a jerk and feel responsible to show some mistakes i've seen so far :)

firstly lets face the truth; i dont belive anyone in game studios would hang around here except helping newbies, so starting with a huge project like a 3d game does have a chance to fail since i'm not quite sure you can direct all people inside the team without ever meeting in face to face. how do i know it would fail? well, i've witnessed 2 teams collapsed, and also cancelled 2 projects in my own team. depending on the skills, you may have a chance to prove me wrong, but those i've seen was not 1 week's work.

secondly i've seen so many open positions in your team which makes most of us believe that you'll just write the story then pass it on to other members. that's the main cause why so many people posted such comments, cause writers are not very respected -general belief, not mine- except some wonderful examples, yes; wow.

and finally i really suggest starting something simple first. 2d games do not suck, a 3d game should not be your first project unless your team is full of pros.

my my, the final paragraph looks similar to second, so i'll write a new suggestion. do not ever tell your story to complete strangers if you believe it's awesome. there's absolutely nothing wrong to keep it a secret, you dont need to prove its awesomeness to anyone. if they're so demanding, just give them a quick 2-3 main lines about the story that would be enough.

thanks for spending some time to read this crap ^_^

Ok, but seriously, you have to think about this a bit more money wise. Lets say you find the perfect team, and you guys program the best game ever, you WILL have to pay, i believe between (tens and hundreds) of thousands for a license to sell that game onto the specific console, and if you want it on multiple consoles, your multiplying the amount you have to pay each individual console maker.

You cannot sell a game on a console that you have made without these charges. You can with the PC as no one will be charging you, however...that only applies if you made the game engine from scratch. If you use another developer's engine to cut down further on time, then you have to pay them a fee also, but things are improving in that department as the Unreal Development Kit from Epic Games now has a special contract that allows you to download it either for free or 99 dollars, or perhaps thats the license purchase, and then after making 5000 dollars off of your game, 25 percent of your income from that games sales go directly to Epic Games.

So yes, there are many costs involved in this that you really cannot avoid, and saying you will "Reward" the people that work on your team, does that mean an even split of all the profits? Or does that mean that they are given a set amount regardless how much money you make? You will have to write out contracts in relation to this, stating what the "Reward" would be in relation to whatever factors you choose.

You may view this as a harsh criticism, but it is a realistic one, and if you cant take this information on board, then so be it and I wish you the best.

Lastly, Xing, I pretty much agree with you on how writers are not really appreciated, or even taken seriously, but I understand where SDD teams passion comes from, as I myself am a budding writer.

Anyway, good luck!

Regards,
Dub.

First of all: Thank you all for all your critics.
Second of all: I will continue this project since it's my future life and income we're talking about. I'm sick and tired of being a regular human without and income with potential to do the world a favour by creating this story of ours to an awesome RPG.
Third of all: I'm aware of the registration-part of the project and relating contract-questions. I'm currently working on a registered team-name for this development team I will name Dreamplay® Development Team. It will be registered by the end of tomorrow or within two days.
Fourt of all: Payment-issues? Yeah, I would say that. I have no education and cannot get a real job in my state of mind and physical-injurings so this is my life's work and hopefully "breakthrough."
Fifth of all: I will NOT quit this project! I will continue it the way it's ment to be. Let my spirit keep me going and motivation effect you guys to join my team. I will salve every issue on the journey through this major task, but I will need at least as inspirated/motivated artists with me. :) I will also welcome experienced developers on the team like you Xing which can be for a good help and guidence. Think about it. :)

Thanks again.

Fredrik.
