Hi, I was thinking about what game engine would fit the game We are working on?? Any one have any insight into the different engines and what would work best for an Action RPG with advanced graphics, a vibrant moving world in full 3D with a fastpased real time combat/tactical system? The world will be huge and open. I would really appreciate som ideas as to what engine, or other programs needed for a project on this scale. -Frank Dark-Era www.thedualdragons.com

I doubt this is a game design question.

Anyway :) do you mean graphic engine or game engine?

The free graphic engines i know of:
ogre3d, irrlicht, truevision3d, torque

I think any of them will suite what you described.
personally i tried the first 3 and liked truevision3d
best.

As game engines, i heard Game Maker from somewhere,
never tried it, maybe you could have a look.

Thanx for your reply, I wasn't sure exactly where to post the question, hehe.

I'm talking about the engine to power the scale of it all.

I'll check out those you mentioned and maybe you know where I should post this question to get a more in depth answer, I'd appreciate it :D
This just seemed like the broadest headline hehe :D

I suppose "scale of it all" includes
graphical engine and AI engine?

You could try "Alternative Game Libraries"
subforum.

Ok, I see the message was moved here, thanx, hehe.

Well, What I really need to know is, what are the best possible engines for a game of this size. both for graphics and gameplay, the whole picture so to speak.

No need to just name freewares, just trying to get a complete overview here.

SO basically what engines?, and what purpose they serve as well as what they are good at and not so good at. Or maybe just the names and what purpose they serve, I can always check them myself as long as I have the names :D

Names like maybe, Unreal engine, The Vision Engine

Thanx

-Frank
