Hey guys, I've been always fascinated about random level generators, specially the ones included with the classic roguelikes back in the day. I'm much better at programming now, and with some free time on my hands, i would like to dedicate myself to a new hobby: studying and prototyping random level generation. Instead of doing the old and same 2D, i'll try to do something playable in 3D. For this, i would like to receive your ideas, suggestions, but most importantly, relevant links to documents and articles on the subject. I've read some great articles on dungeon generation algorithms but ended up losing the links.

Many of those games have their source freely available.

Even though they have the source, it doesn't mean it is usable. Few of those older games are written with modern languages, so you'll need to find one that is still maintained, like NetHack.

It is easy enough, go to the NetHack source download page and snag it.
