Co-op Action?

No idea what you mean by "probably destiny of action games". It is true that there are a *ton* of co-op 3rd person games many of which are cover shooters coming out in the next 2 years judging by what was shown at E3 this year.

Random pedantic point: Gears of war is not a 3rd person shooter though. It's first-person with only minimal exceptions.

But that's just an expanding genre. It's rise doesn't necessarily mean the death of other genre's. FPS has been around forever and continues to be a massive market leader.

I personaly like games where there is Co-op suicide mode.

I like co-op in general, and when a game is designed to be at its best in multiplayer, a great deal of attention is paid to character art and animation. It always seems a shame to hide a really dynamite character from the player, so third-person becomes advantageous for aesthetic reasons.

So yes, I think there's a strong market for co-op games, I think shooters will remain popular in the future and I think third-person will be used frequently in co-op shooters.

Playing Alien Swarm right now, which is a fun, free co-op (that keeps crashing my admittedly uninspiring system). First co-op I've played, and really enjoy the thrill of having a (hopefully) intelligent partner backing me up.

I don't think Co-op 3rd Person will be the only kind of action game. But I think is a great area to work.

what do you think about splinter cell conviction? it has a good portion of shot and sneak...but don't has a great script, not the co-op mode.

I'm pretty sure that 3rd-person co-op shooters are not the destiny of action games. FPSs outnumber these games at least 5 to 1, are more accessible, and are easier to learn. Players in general also prefer to be running and gun, rather than co-operating tactics with their partner. FPSs also allow for precise aiming and a more immersive view.

Whilst I do think 3rd-person co-op shooters will grow as sub-genre, the destiny of co-op action games will always be more shooting, less thinking, and I think this lies with FPSs.
