Project name: Brains

Brief description: Brains is a text based browser game with less than 10 overall images. It is designed to have appeal to both recreational and hardcore gamers.

Target aim: Brains will be free to play and also will offer many microtransactions for those who wish to spend real money.

Compensation: I am offering 1/3 (33.3%) ownership of the game along with the same percentage of all future revenues. I can offer some payment during coding on a draw/loan system, which would be repaid in full once revenue is generated before any future payouts.

Technology: I am not very familiar with programming but from my understanding this should be coded in php mainly along with java, ajax and mysql.

Talent needed: I am looking for someone with a good deal of experience, I've tried working with people who are learning and it doesn't work for this project. This is a large text game that uses a lot of random elements, including a random maze generator.

Team structure: I am the sole owner and creator of Brains, I only need a solid programmer who sees this for the opportunity it is. I will be handling all the duties on the business, sales, marketing, game admin, etc. In other words, everything that does not involve writing code or web security is done by me.

Website: site for Brains Nothing up but the site is registered and waiting.

Contacts: I can be contacted at shelbyferguson2@gmail.com or on Skype at skipferguson. I leave Skype running so if I don't answer right away give me time, I will get back with you. I have a complete forum up with all the game info that can be viewed after a NDA is signed.

Previous Work by Team: I was co-owner of a board game development company for 3 years, I left that to pursue my current project full time on my own.

Additional Info: This game is 95% done on paper, all that remains is filling in some basic stuff, I even have the formulas to start testing with. The basic story of the game is shown in a teaser up on Brains promo , just down from the top of the main page. I am 34 years old and have a heavy sales, customer service and gaming background. I believe I have made a game that is going to be very well received once made correctly. I am keeping it mainly text based so adults can play it at work, I have found that it is very easy for them to spend 5/10 bucks a day playing games at work.

I have 3 other sites I have based my revenue projections on, all 3 put this game at easily making 30k+ the first year, with a possibility of breaking 6 figures. I have a player base ready to beta test, interest being built up, a team of mods/admins to help once launched, and the ability and know-how to promote this game successfully. I have made this game from the perspective of it being a business whose product is a game, while keeping that game unique as well as utilizing many popular features that have been proven successful in other games.

All I am missing is a great programmer who can create my vision for me and keep it running with 6 major updates a year. You do not have to play the game, but you will need to be able to handle security issues that arise in the game, if any. I will be the full time main Admin, along with 2 others I have known for years. I estimate the initial game will take about 120-150 hours of programming, but again, I do not know much about programming. That is having a polished, finished game though, I will not release a game in "pre-beta/alpha" stage, first impressions are key.

I don't see why a programmer would wanna share with you. Since you don't really do anything else than monitoring and setting up the webspace just sharing 33,33% seems stupid to me from the programmers side.

I don't know - if Fungus is writing the text, writes it well, AND does the design in a solid, professional way, then he would have a strong position to argue this.

The post seems to forego this point entirely, but I'd very much give the benefit of doubt first.

a maze in a text game? is that some ascii art? or is it just a virtual maze?

(I assume story, dialogs etc. need a way into the game).

your 120-150 hour estimate is most likely extremely low unless its an extremely simple game. (a game isn't simple just because its text based).

Somewhere in the 500-2500 hour range is probably a far more reasonable estimate.

The voices in my head may not be real, but they have some good ideas!

Strongly agreeing here, expecially when a management interface for the admin(s) also has to be included in the final product the required development time goes up fast
:edit: Also, is the developement time of those 6 major updates you spoke of included in your 120-150 hour figure?

Thanks to everyone for all the interest I received, I partnered up with a solid programmer and am looking forward to letting everyone know when this game launches SOON!
