Visual Studio 2012 Express

This link suggests that TFS is the only supported source control.

If you've already got Perforce, you could just download VS Express and try it.

Personally I'd drop Perforce. Most version control systems don't need to be integrated into the IDE the way Perforce has to be, since they're capable of noticing when you changed a file all by themselves...

FWIW, it seems VS 2012 Express supports extensions, but previous express versions did not. That's the impression I get from a couple of minutes googling - I haven't tried it.

Thanks guys. In terms of giving it a go, I kinda hoped someone else had because it's such a big cumbersome program that it'd take ages to install and leaves junk on your computer when you uninstall it that I'd rather know before going ahead with it.

I noticed that it seems to support more this time around, and like you said maybe extensions but not addins (I can never understand the difference there!).

Has anyone actually given this a go?

Wait, whaaa.... really? I seriously doubt it. My google-fu gave me nothing.

That's based solely on this page, where it (mis?)quotes Soma - "Traditionally, Express tools have not supported Visual Studio extensions. With the addition of Express for Windows Desktop, Windows developers can, however, take advantage of the latest functionality in the 2012 Express tooling, according to Somasegar". I did say it was my impression after a couple of minutes googling.

Clearly your google-fu is weak.... but still stronger than either of our motivation to actually test this out ;¬)

Lol, yeah. The only extension i really want at the moment - has not updated for 2012.

Also, i remember, albeit very vaguely, trying to install some extension - but could not. Fairly sure i tried it with 2012 express ... can not remember what extension it was tho (clearly it was something i was not terribly fixated on).

The content on the linked page reminds me the big fuss around "Visual Studio 11 Express NOT able to target the traditional desktop!?" - ie, targeting Desctop was seen as extension. The article seems to be about the inclusion of that "extension" to express edition - and not actually about third party / non express extensions. So, sounds like extension are still out.
