For some obscure reason my laptop's IP screen seems to have partially crapped out and now has a 5 cm glitched band on the left side, which keeps flickering with all the colors of the rainbow. Initially I was hopeful that the connector might have come loose, but after opening up the screen and checking everything, it seems more likely the IPS panel itself is at fault. Notably, the screen occasionally, at very specific angles, works just fine.
In any case, it turns out a new IPS screen is not all that expensive (around £35-40 on amazon.co.uk) which made me wonder if I could a) upgrade it just like that if I wanted to (eg to a higher res screen), b) replace it with a touch screen. Presently the only cable running to the screen is a 1.5mm ribbon that connects directly to the GPU. I haven't opened up the main panel yet, but the laptop has an integrated HD4000 + Geforce 640M. I'm not sure which GPU it connects to. My guess would be that I would need to add another connector for touch, which isn't that trivial for a regular user.
Anyone have experience with this?
