Need a level-designer for a small Metroid-themed 8-directional shooter game

Hello fellow game devs!

I am working on my first ever game! It is a Metroid-themed 8-directional shooter. This is obviously not going to be commercial. I'm just trying to make something that I would play, and I'm trying to build a portfolio. I have implemented the following:

Fully animated Samus character with 8-directional aiming.

A pallet swapping system using shaders.

Tile and object-based collision system.

Input controller.

Test rooms.

One enemy. (Autclast from Metroid Dread)

Projectile system. (Regular, Charge Beam, and Missiles).

Missile ammo system.

Missile ammo pick-ups.

Health pick-ups.

Post-processing effects system.

HUD with dynamic health bar and missile count.

Loading / shader compilation splash screen at startup.

Culling system.

Seamless mouse and keyboard switching for menu navigation.

Title screen.

Pause screen.

Controls menu. (Only viewing them so far)

Settings menu with the following options:

Vsync

Display Mode

Refresh Rate

Window Scale

Bloom

Chromatic Aberration

Film Grain

The following is what I still need to implement:

Configurable controls.

Gamepad support.

Max health and missile capacity upgrade items.

More enemies with AI.

Various environmental and interactive objects.

A short cutscene to transition from Title Screen to the first room.

An ending cutscene.

Three rooms (levels/maps).

So basically, the story is Samus picks up a lifeform reading from a nearby planet she happens to be passing by. Her ship's AI points out that it has Metroid-like characteristics and recommends investigating. So, she lands on the planet to investigate. The atmosphere will be darker-toned, kind of like the dark world areas in Metroid Prime 2.

The gameplay will be similar to other Metroid games, but without the backtracking. Only forward progression. It is just one mission long. The first room (level, map, whatever you want to call it) will be filled with hostile alien lifeforms. In the second room, Samus discovers the Metroid-like creature, and there are lots of them. In the third room she continues fighting off the Metroid-like creatures followed by an ending boss fight. Then an ending cutscene will play out followed by credits.

The game is being made in Gamemaker Studio 2. I just need a level designer, and if willing, a sprite artist. I have a set of tilemap sprites that I have been using for test rooms, but I lack the ability to make a cohesive well-rounded map.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm not looking to hire. I'm just looking for fans that want to help make a fun Metroid-themed game in their spare time.

Thank you! PM me if you're interested and I will go into more detail on what I have so far.

Short video of the gameplay systems in action. This video is a bit outdated as the menu system has changed quite a bit.

Hey thank you! It's coming along. I didn't realize this thread was up! It has been moved to this link:

EDIT: This is the correct page now. Thanks Tom.

I'll upload a short video soon of the progress that has been made.

Edit: I want to make some more progress before posting a video.

I'm back at it. I do not have much time to work on it because I'm working a full-time job, going to school, and have family obligations, but it's coming along!

Does anybody know how to upload a high quality video on a streaming platform? I have some recorded footage that is high quality on my local machine. I've tried to upload to YouTube and Vimeo, but each time it absolutely destroyed image quality with a ton of macro blocking and artifacts.

I think I'm figuring something out for YouTube. I'll try to have a tech video up soon that will demonstrate the systems that I have in place. It's still pre-alpha and gameplay will just be in a test room with one enemy type.

Ok I finally figured out how to record and upload at a decent quality to YouTube. Here is some gameplay from a test room. This is pre-alpha. I have not done any level design yet.
