Industry veteran and YouTube musician launch new indie studio, Stupendium Softworks

Briefing

Alex Oxspring and The Stupendium have launched Stupendium Softworks, a UK-based indie studio already working on its first game: a first-person horror survival title. The team says principal photography and production are planned for this summer, and the studio is positioning itself around sustainable development rather than the churn-and-burn model Oxspring says is common elsewhere.

For devs, the interesting angle is less the celebrity pairing and more the production philosophy. Oxspring has a long background at nDreams, Dambuster, Sumo Digital, Firesprite, and Hitpoint Games, while The Stupendium brings a built-in audience and a strong music/video identity. The studio also says it will not use generative AI in its games, and the team is framing the debut project as joyful, queer, and influenced by favorite game and film properties.

“We want to see more emphasis put on sustainability and creativity.”
