Leadwerks 5.1 Beta is Now Available, with Support for Potato PCs
Leadwerks 5.1 beta is out on Steam, and the biggest change is a new deferred renderer replacing the 5.0 clustered forward+ path. The update also folds in a more complete transparency pipeline: screen-space reflections, probe volumes, refraction, and rough transparency are all part of the package, with some extra optimization work like stencil-buffer decal control.
The other headline is hardware reach. Leadwerks says 5.1 is tuned for older, low-end PCs, including systems going back to 2010 and even integrated graphics. It also adds terrain-mesh blending, ocean water, and a custom upscaler that the author claims can boost framerates by up to 300%, with an Intel HD 630 hitting 60 FPS in a first-person shooter sample at 1080p. If you’re shipping to broad PC specs, this is the kind of engine update that can materially change your minimum spec and art/perf tradeoffs.
