Analyst: Q1 2026 revenue figures show there is still demand for compelling single-player video games
Q1 2026 global game content revenue rose 3.6% year over year to $54.14 billion, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence. That’s the seventh straight quarter of growth, and it’s a reminder that the market is still expanding even if the gains are concentrated in a few very large publishers and platform holders.
For developers, the most interesting takeaway is that traditional single-player games still have commercial upside. Capcom’s content revenue jumped 89.8% to $451.8 million on the back of Resident Evil Requiem, while Pearl Abyss surged 468.6% to $328.1 million after Crimson Desert passed five million copies. S&P explicitly called out those titles as evidence that consumers will still buy stand-alone games if the package is compelling enough.
The broader revenue picture was led by Tencent at $9.60 billion, up 8.4%, and NetEase at $3.62 billion, up 12.3%. Roblox also climbed 39.3% to $1.44 billion, while Nintendo rebounded 37.7% to $1.31 billion thanks to Switch 2 sales and Pokémon Pokopia. Sony was up 6.3% to $2.87 billion, while Microsoft slipped 0.2% to $4.12 billion, which S&P tied to lower Xbox hardware sales.
Platform mix matters here too: PC was the fastest-growing segment at 7.8% to $12.11 billion, mobile remained the biggest at $30.53 billion, and console was the slowest at 1.3% growth to $9.81 billion. The practical read for teams is that live-service and platform-scale businesses still dominate the top line, but there’s still room for premium, content-complete releases to outperform when timing, quality, and positioning line up.
“Consumers are still willing to give traditional, stand-alone titles a look.”
