UKIE-backed Digital Schoolhouse partners with Roblox to provide suite of tools for students to develop Roblox games in-class
Roblox and UKIE-backed Digital Schoolhouse are rolling out a free classroom programme that teaches students how to make Roblox games using teacher-led workshops and downloadable learning materials. The package is built around Roblox Studio, with lesson plans aligned to national computing curriculum frameworks and an open-source release planned through the Digital Schoolhouse site.
The programme is designed for supervised in-class use rather than open-ended student access. Schools will get a teacher toolkit with safeguarding guidance, parent-facing materials, and curriculum support, while an unplugged version gives schools without reliable devices or internet a paper-based route into game design, pitching, and production thinking.
For developers, the interesting part is less the platform itself and more the pipeline it creates: students will be introduced to game design fundamentals, scripting in Luau, and AI prompting practices as part of formal education. That makes Roblox’s creation stack a more visible on-ramp for future creators, especially in environments where schools want practical, low-friction tools that map to existing computing lessons.
The move also lands in the middle of Roblox’s ongoing effort to position itself as a safer, more classroom-friendly ecosystem. The company has spent the past two years adding tighter communication limits for younger users, new moderation policies, facial age checks, and AI-based safety tools, all while facing child-safety scrutiny from regulators and lawsuits in the US and elsewhere.
“Working with Digital Schoolhouse gives us the opportunity to make new resources with established curricula experts.”
