Sensor Tower: 89% of GTA6 preorders are for the $100 ultimate edition

Briefing

Sensor Tower’s latest tracking puts GTA6 at 4.3 million preorders, with 89% of them going to the $100 Ultimate Edition rather than the $80 standard SKU. The split is unusually lopsided for a preorder window, where the most committed fans usually dominate but premium editions still tend to land far below this level.

The premium bias is consistent across platforms: 90% of Xbox preorders are for the Ultimate Edition, versus 88.5% on PlayStation. That lines up with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick’s recent comment that preorders are skewing toward the premium tier, but the scale of the skew is still exceptional by industry standards.

For developers, the interesting part is less the headline number than what it says about pricing and perceived value. The $20 gap between the standard and Ultimate editions looks small enough that Rockstar’s extra vehicles, weapons, and custom mod shop are converting a large share of early buyers. In a market where premium editions often rely on filler, this one appears to be selling on meaningful content.

The open question is how durable that mix will be once the broader audience starts buying in. Sensor Tower expects the premium share to fall as launch approaches and more casual players enter the funnel, but still remain well above typical industry levels. With GTA6, even the usual forecasting models start to break down, which makes this one of the most important pricing and demand signals in the market right now.

“I have never seen a 90% premium share before.”
