Free Play Days – Gears of War: E-Day Open Beta, Sunderfolk and Asdivine Cross

Xbox is using Free Play Days to push a mix of a high-profile multiplayer beta and two full games, giving Game Pass members a short window to sample each title. The biggest draw is Gears of War: E-Day’s online multiplayer beta, which opens August 13 at 12pm PT and closes August 17 at 10am PT on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Console access to the beta requires a Game Pass membership with online multiplayer privileges.

For developers, the interesting part is the shape of the beta itself. Horde Siege is being positioned as a 12-player PvE mode built around larger maps and bigger encounters, alongside refined 4v4 Versus PvP. That combination suggests a stress test not just for combat tuning, but for encounter pacing, network load, and how well the game reads at scale. Players can also complete challenges for exclusive beta rewards, which is a familiar but effective way to drive participation and collect feedback before launch.

Sunderfolk and Asdivine Cross are also part of the weekend promotion for Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and Essential members from August 13 to August 16. Sunderfolk is getting Patch 2.0 content during the event, including the Vanguard class and two new scenarios, while Asdivine Cross is available on Xbox PC as well as console. Both are being used as low-friction discovery plays, with Sunderfolk leaning on its phone-as-controller setup and Asdivine Cross targeting players looking for a traditional turn-based RPG.
