Free Play Days – Train Sim World 6, Icarus: Console Edition, and Lynked: Banner of the Spark

Xbox is running another Free Play Days weekend, giving Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and Essential members temporary access to three very different games: Train Sim World 6: Standard Edition, Icarus: Console Edition, and Lynked: Banner of the Spark. The play window runs Thursday, Aug. 20 through Sunday, Aug. 23, with installs available through the game pages on Xbox.com or the Free Play Days collection on console.

For developers, the interesting part is the conversion path. Microsoft is explicitly tying the trial period to limited-time discounts, and any Gamerscore or achievements earned during the event persist if players purchase afterward. That makes the weekend less like a demo and more like a low-friction acquisition funnel, especially for games with strong onboarding or early-session retention.

The three featured titles also cover a useful spread of design problems. Train Sim World 6 leans on route authenticity and vehicle mastery, Icarus pushes co-op PvE survival and crafting, and Lynked blends roguelite combat with life-sim progression and base building. Each one benefits differently from a short-form trial: simulation needs immediate clarity, survival needs a compelling first loop, and hybrid RPGs need to communicate progression quickly.
