Rockstar hit with more leaks as GTA 6 gameplay and assets appear to circulate on social media

A hacker group calling itself CyberLeek is posting daily GTA 6 leaks across social media, including gameplay clips, assets, and what appears to be a full map. The latest footage suggests access to a playable build, with protagonist Jason Duval spelling out “LEEK” with bullet holes on a wall. The material is being used to promote a memecoin, adding another layer of noise around the leak cycle.

For developers, the practical issue is less the spectacle and more the exposure of unfinished content, internal iteration, and production assumptions. The origin and age of the build are still unclear, and it’s not known how much of the game is actually playable in the leaked material. Rockstar and Take-Two are reportedly trying to remove the clips from social platforms, but once this kind of content spreads, containment becomes a game of whack-a-mole.

This is far from Rockstar’s first leak problem. The studio was hit by a major 2022 breach that exposed dozens of in-development videos, and GTA 6’s trailer also leaked a day early in 2023. Earlier this year, Rockstar also dealt with a third-party data breach involving limited non-material information. The repeated incidents underline how vulnerable high-profile projects are once they become targets.

The timing is awkward as well: the latest leaks arrive a week before an extended GTA 6 gameplay look is set to premiere on Netflix on August 27. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has framed that partnership as just the start of the marketing push, calling it “one of the hors d’oeuvres” before the rest of the campaign rolls out.
