The highlights of Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026

Briefing

Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 leaned hard into big reveals, but the loudest reaction came from a 11-year-old game: The Witcher 3 is being remastered with combat improvements and ray tracing, and owners of the original will get the upgrade free on September 29. CD Projekt Red also confirmed that the base game’s previous two expansions are being handed out free, with a third expansion, Songs of the Past, set for 2027.

The show also sharpened a few major 2027 release windows. Final Fantasy 7: Revelation is due in spring 2027 and will launch simultaneously across all platforms, breaking from the timed PlayStation exclusivity of the earlier entries. Metro 2039 is targeting February 2027, with 4A Games emphasizing the strain of making a dark, war-torn project under difficult conditions and proudly framing the game as made in Ukraine.

Beyond the headliners, the showcase underscored how global the market has become. Hoyoverse opened with Nodusfall, while Chinese and Korean teams were everywhere, from Ananta and Sea of Remnants to Tides of Annihilation and PUBG: Ded.Net. That mix matters for developers because it shows where production scale, polish, and genre competition are heading next.

There was also plenty for genre fans and systems-minded devs: Wizards of the Coast showed Exodus and Warlock, Frictional teased Ontos as a Soma successor, and Paradox is publishing Lego Skylines. The pre-show added Worms: Galactic Tactics, Rollercoaster Tycoon Wonderworks, and Humankind 2, making this one of the denser ONL lineups in recent memory.
