Turok: Origins – A Classic, Arcade-Style Shooter That Celebrates What Shooters Do Best

Briefing

Turok: Origins is taking the series in a cleaner, more arcade-driven direction, with a soft reset set before the original game’s events. The campaign can be played solo or with up to three players, and co-op is fully drop-in, drop-out, which should make it easier to keep a session moving without menu friction or restarts.

The demo build shown at gamescom centered on three classes: Cougar, Bison, and Raven. Cougar is built around speed and close-range aggression, Bison leans into tanking and shields, and Raven focuses on long-range combat with a bow. That class split gives the game a clearer multiplayer identity than older Turok entries, while still supporting a straightforward single-player run.

Moment-to-moment structure looks intentionally simple: clear enemies, destroy targets, push to the boss fight. That kind of mission flow keeps the focus on combat readability, encounter pacing, and weapon feel rather than layered progression systems. For developers, it’s a reminder that a stripped-down loop can still carry a game if the shooting, enemy variety, and arena design are doing the heavy lifting.

The standout encounter was a boss called Metal Maw, a missile-launching therapod that forced constant movement, ammo management, and positional awareness. Turok: Origins is coming to Xbox Series X|S, and the pitch is clear: big guns, dinosaurs, aliens, and co-op spectacle without much overhead.
