CONTROL Resonant Is an Action Game… and an RPG, and a Superhero Game, and More Besides

Briefing

XBox Wire says CONTROL Resonant is taking Remedy’s series in a much broader direction, centering the sequel on melee combat while layering in RPG systems, open-zone exploration, and faster superhero-style movement. Dylan Faden replaces Jesse as the playable lead, and his kit includes talent trees, weapon-form upgrades, secondary weapons, combat abilities, and combo finishers that can reshape encounters.

The progression model goes beyond the player character: areas of warped Manhattan can level up as you clear fights, uncover secrets, and complete quests, which then unlocks bonuses. Taking down Resonant Entities can make those zones more dangerous, creating a push-pull loop that should matter to designers balancing difficulty, pacing, and reward structure.

Traversal also looks far more aggressive than in the original CONTROL. Dylan can jump, glide, dash, run at high speed, subvert gravity, and move across vertical surfaces, which suggests a map built around rapid repositioning rather than cautious cover play.

There’s also a strong tonal shift toward workplace comedy, with redacted FBC files and absurd bureaucratic interactions sitting alongside the paranormal chaos. CONTROL Resonant launches September 24 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere support and preorder bonuses.
