View Matters: Keyframe-Guided Text-Driven 3D Gaussian Editing
arXiv cs.GR details View Matters, a text-driven 3D Gaussian editing framework that tries to solve a familiar problem: not every camera view is equally useful for guiding an edit. The method focuses on reliable keyframes rather than averaging supervision across all rendered views, which is a meaningful shift for anyone working with 3DGS-based content creation.
The pipeline has three parts. Keyframe Importance Estimation identifies views using geometric visibility, semantic distinctiveness, and edit relevance. Keyframe-Guided Editing then pushes edits outward from those keyframes without letting noisy reverse influence contaminate them, while Importance-Aware Optimization keeps that preference intact during optimization.
For developers, the practical angle is consistency. The paper evaluates 23 scene-prompt pairs and reports the highest average CLIP text-image similarity of 0.2822 and directional similarity of 0.2564 among the compared methods, with a four-minute editing time. An adjacent-view analysis also suggests the approach preserves cross-view coherence, which matters if you care about edits holding up as the camera moves.
This is especially relevant for graphics programmers and technical artists experimenting with Gaussian splatting pipelines, but it also has implications for tools teams building interactive editing workflows. The broader takeaway is that view selection may be just as important as the edit model itself when trying to turn text prompts into stable 3D scene changes.
“Views that clearly show the scene and match the edit instruction provide reliable guidance.”
