Day 3 - “Loon”

Main feature

Topic for June 3rd was “Loon”. Quite weird topic for game, especially when the game is about space and resource management. Anyway, I decided to add a new ship - shop: “Don't be Loon”. Unfortunately the ship so far is just floating object in space, but it will have its routine and it will sell things. Just not yet. Of course, I can't leave it like that. This ship - shop has to be somehow connected with word “Loon”. So, when buying things from it, player will need to be careful. This shop will try to trick you. Yes, it will sell advanced engines, sometimes they will be more than advanced and if you are lucky enough, you will be able to buy hyperdrive engine! But you also need to be careful. The shop will also try to sell you advanced engines, but with repair cost higher than its normal price. Sometimes it will try to sell you inefficient engine for a lot of cash.

Side features

What I mostly focused on today, was maneuver mode, braking system and docking system. Now, you are able to move ship very slowly and carefully, stop it without trying to reduce speed by turning back and going full thrust and dock it to another ship. Unfortunately I didn't introduced proper physics while docking, so flying while docked is filled with bugs. I mean not-discovered-yet-physics-laws. Speaking of physics - I also fixed a bug, when ship decided to go not exactly where I wanted it to go. I have also learned, that 480kN is not enough to accelerate a 167 ton spacecraft. So, in summary:

Main feature:

“Don't be Loon” - shopship (not ready yet)

Side feautures:

  • Maneuver mode
  • Brake system
  • Docking system
  • Physics bugfix
  • Warnings (one is displayed when loading save - don't be bothered by it)

What I've learned today:

  1. 480kN is not enough to accelerate a 167 ton spacecraft.
  2. How to edit things like blog post cover and so on.
